    I have a $500 budget on this.

Please tell me the cheapest good parts of a computer set. Such as the motherboard, graphics cards, etc.

Im trying to go for a XFX 8600 GT Video card.

And maybe a ASUS motherboard, as long as it supports dual channel and 6200, 5200, 4200 RAM modules.

Im thinking of getting Corsair Dominator RAM, if theres something cheaper, tell me :P

    THX GR.

you can't get that for 500 euro, that graphics card is like 250, the ram is 110 and the mobo should be around 100-150 so good luck... (and then you dont even have a case, power supply and the rest)

One thing, don't discourage me :(

When the hell was a 8600 GT $250? It's around $120 right now, I might get a ASUS motherboard, and btw, I do have a "old computer." Not that old, im just upgrading it :P
Not from scratch. My CPU is rated at 3.4ghz anyways.

Using eBay for the parts :P

    im thinking about a RAPTOR X 150gb Hard-drive also.

Just tell me some good cheap parts :P

    No flamin' please.

Doesn't that have lower RPM than the Raptor X?

of course it has a lower rpm, the raptors are 10k drives, mortals prefer standard 7200 rpm drives which come in much larger capacities...
your call though, if u go 4 the raptor you will be sacrificing space 4 speed which is good for gaming but not suited to a multimedia power house that needs to store hundreds of gigs of movies.
personally i run 4x500gb harddisks in a dual raid0 config using separate raid controllers, this gives me more than enough speed and a bunch of space, your call though once again...
raid or raptors aren't what id be aiming 4 on ur budget though
GL buddy, Ebay can be unpredictable at times :)

Tell me about it, so came up with a list of things that can fit into my budget by inputing the average prices of the products.

    XFX GeForce 8600 GT = $150
    2GB Corsair XMS RAM PC2 6400 = $90
    ASUS A8V Deluxe Motherboard = $120
    Raptor X 150GB Hard drive = $150 <--Ironic price.

Adds up to about $520 plus shipping would be $600. I wouldn't mind working some more late shifts for an extra $100

Don't get a 8600GT performance and price wise, it's bad.

There are no Pc2 6200 ddr2 modules. Asus doesn't say anything, it depends on what type.

Corsair Dominator ram is overrated and overpriced. You can get much better or equivalent stuff for less money.

    Tell us first;
    Where are you from.
Where do you want us to select parts from?
Does it have to include a monitor, keyboard, mouse or speakers?

A Raptor? No way for that budget and you forgot to include a processor and case.

you can get better ram for the money w/ mail in rebate, try getting the crucial ballistix 800 mhz and it has the d9 microns so its good for overclocking

10,000 is like mega-fast load times.

x1950pro or 7900GS(both are faster than the 8600GT FYI, 8600s aren't good considering their cost, they're literally 1/4th the card of the 8800s basicalyl just a way for nVidia to make cash. HD2600s are the same way too)

I'll get back to you on this see what I can do, what I put needs some trimming, I know. FYI 500 isn't much.

and those who say 500GB harddrive, you out of your mind? his budget is really small for something that includes a graphics card. Again get back to you on this. I'll do some trimming

also don't bother with the raptor at this point. I ahd oen it's a great drive I loved it. Seagate baracuda 7200.11 is damn close and much cheaper. Two of them in RAID0 SHOULD outperform a raptor while remaining cheaper and offering 2-4 times the space.

FYI for a computer to run you need a power supply. They convert AC power to DC power which your system can use. don't go TOO cheap on the PSU sine there are a lot which are overrated. I promote the idea of quality over quantity when it comes to PSUs FYI. I'd take a 400W PSU which delivers good stable power @ 350W over a mediocre 600W PSU which is unreliable past 300W(there is a lot of misrepresentation in the PSU market)

yes they do, but the raptors have really small plater densities.(so for each RPM the raptor's head moves over less data) While the raptors might be better at random seeks(typical of a server enviroment FYI, raptors were meant to be low wend server drives) they aren't nearly as fast at consecutive reads as you might think(still faster than most other drives). again in the sub $1000 area there is no place for a raptor. Heck I'd be temped to say that sub $1500-2000 raptors usually aren't worth their cost premium.

again I had a raptor. I loved it. I sold it. not worth the $$$. What I have now is nearly as fast.

Also corsairs RAM is mediocre unless you're spending $$$$$$$. Even then there is better stuff out there. That crucial I linked to is about the best you can do. Has micron D9 ICs(IC=iintegrated circuit=the microchip used) Those are the same chips(or atleast family of chips) used in the $600 kit dominators. Crucial is owned by micron. They use micron based chips.
