What program is causing it. Or do ya know? DivX or Nero? Or something else? There is an option to disable thumbnail previews. and there is another option I found "Online". Right Click on "My Computer" and choose properties, and Advance system settings, and under the advance click settings. Select Data Execution Protection and click tunr on Data Execution Protection for all programs and services except those i select. click add. then browse to C:\Windows\System32\dllhost.exe Click open and OK.

thats confusing.. If you don't have it installed you shouldn't get an error. Another 'Fix it' is...
    Possible Solutions

If you are using DivX, you should be upgraded to the very latest version (6.5+)
If you are using Nero, you can try upgrading to the latest version (7.7.5.1+)
If you’ve upgraded Nero and Divx and still have the problem, you can try renaming the file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter\NeVideo.ax to NeVideo.ax.bak. You may also need to rename NeVideoHD.ax to NeVideoHD.bak. Caution: Nero Showtime will not work anymore
The older ffdshow codec pack has been known to cause some problems. The ffdshow tryouts codec pack seems to work better. Might want to try using this one: http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/

other than that i'm lost also. I haven't had that problem with Vista to be honest. You can also check here. http://thevistaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=12347

    ok i have

1.) Add c:\windows\system32\dllhost.exe to the DEP ignore list.
2.) Update to the newest version of Divx. (6.7)

And i dont have nero installed, should i just download the XviD codec and install it and then unstall it or???

also i did do this step 'You can disable Thumbnail previews, which should make the problem go away, but isn't the optimal solution.' that fixes the problem but i dont realy wont it showing icons have the thumnail previews stops me opening the wrong things...

No problem. I'm just glad something worked for you. I know how frustrating it is when something doesn't work right. Which seems to happen to me all the time )
