I have two scanners right now, a new-ish Dell printer/scanner 2-in-1 which tides me well for most things, but also an old Mustek 1200 USB. Now, I'm also running two separate machine "banks", one for work and one for GFX and gaming. I need my 2-in-1 down for work, and this never bothered me as I rarely use a scanner other than for work, so the Mustek was just dusted off occasionally for larger scan jobs. However, now I've just bought a Wacom tablet to try and start getting into different artistic areas, namely comics as well as trying to use some old sketches and finally finish them in CS2. As such, I wanted the Mustek brought out for good, so I could use it with my GFX desktop constantly for importing hand drawings to finish with CS2/tablet editing. This brought forward a number of problems though. First of all, the Mustek is OLD (albeit perfect for what I want) so needs device drivers installed from disc...which doesn't run on any machine with Win2000 or above. I finally tracked down the drivers on the net for XP but had issues installing them. I think I've managed to crack that side of things now, and certainly when I run a Test Scan with XP it registers on the Mustek and tells me that everythings fine. And yet, I cannot work out a way to use the thing. The Mustek was built to be totally screen controlled, so has no buttons to tell it when to scan, so I have to tell it to work through software. My problem is, I cannot find a download of the old Mustek program I used on my Win98 machine, the install CD wont run on XP and XP's own scanner wizards refuse to acknowledge the Mustek is plugged in despite all diagnostic tests coming back fine. I'm totally stumped as to why this would be happening, or what to try/do next. Any help is greatly appreciated.
It seems like the drivers for it were in correct or mislabeled. Since my computer tech teach would yell at me if I didn't do this I'm apologizing for it before i finish the post... yeah... Make sure it's plugged in Check the cables making sure they are still working accurately re-search your drivers for the exact name of the scanner since it is 'ancient' don't count on finding to much once found re-install your scanner (if you can, however, how did you install it if it isn't supposed to be on any better O.S. than M.E.?) anyways re-install your drivers for the scanner with a different version make sure you don't have to do something to the file before you install (they might have you un-zip or change a file name) If this fails test it on a older computer you can also do a duel boot system and put 2000 on the dual boot and easily get it done that way too : / it's not that hard to dual boot make sure and try it on a system that you dont' care about, older system, parents system, friends system when he's not looking just to make sure you don't mess up your computer hope i helped a little
