I've heard of Alcest, but haven't checked out their album. The Shins' latest album is a relaxing one of sorts. Sean Kingston's album was HORRIBLE to me, ugh... Chamillionaire's latest album has definitely gotten the album of the year for a rap album, though. Amazing stuff. Edit - Listening to the album now. Sweet stuff, bleek.
I'm going to agree with Chamillionaire (on the rap side, though I don't listen to it except for a few here and there) - it's amazing.
Okay? Does that make rap better than rock? No. Popularity doesn't mean it's good. We liked N'Sync and boy bands, give me a freakin break. This is BEST album released this year, not MOST POPULAR album released this year. Face it.
But who chooses the Best Album?? It's the people who decide it [/b][/quote] Yes, but that doesn't mean the best album released this year has to be number 1 at the Billboard charts. People decide it, but then again, not a lot of people actually BUY albums anymore. The music industry is declining MAJORLY with its count on sales, I hope you understand that. What could've been 7,000,000 just ten years ago, is lucky enough to hit 3,000,000. And as time goes by, less and less people will buy albums because most of the albums today is...crap. Get it by now? Some of the most recognized and greatest albums around wasn't even CLOSE to hitting number 1 in ANY chart. Sales doesn't mean good music. Sales just mean money, and not much of it because quite frankly, record companies only give you about 2-10% of the money that they make towards sales. Anyhow, The Shins - Wincing the Night Away is a very multi-layered indie rock/pop record. I'm really loving the song "Split Needles" and "Sealegs". I don't know yet if I can consider it an "album of the year" kind of record. Hmm... With The Roots, The Cure, and more coming out next year, I think I'm already shifting gears anticipating next years' releases, honestly... <_<
Popularity generally decides album of the year among places like the Grammy's. You won't be seeing Between The Buried And Me winning best metal performance when they are arguably the most technical and rising metal band right now.
