Just wondering what you guys think is better. I haven't used VB lately, but have used the other 2. I'm looking to restart a site I had awhile back, and want to re-do the entire thing.

I've only ever used phpBB and IPB and obviously IPB is the better out of the two considering phpBB is free so of course it'd have very limited features and vulnerabilities considering it's open source (although still makes an alright forum). I've never used vB but the ammount of features, tools etc in the ACP of IPB 2.3.x, I'd imagine it'd be very hard to beat. But I can't really compare it since I have no idea what vB offers.

vBulletin is safer and a better overall service.
I've been an administrator on all 3 (legal and licensed as well) and just thought vBulletin was better overall.

I personally find the IPB Admin/Mod CP UI better, but vB is known as a safer forum, except for the spam bots xD

    Depends...

IPB is much more idiot friendly has more base options, looks better out of the box, has alot more free support.

vBulletin is cheaper, has a LOT of mods to upgrade it to exactly how you want it, an absolutely horrendous acp (seriously, its extremely shitty in the way it was designed), has alot more skinning options for a custom skin, and still has great support.

Basically it boils down to if you want to spend 100x the amount of time setting up a vB to have more customization, or if you just want it to work out of the box for your website.

I completely forgot about simple machines. The only reason I never thought about them is because they don't have such a large following, so people aren't as apt to develop stuff for it.
