don't you say that about 2k budgets too?

though assuming no-oc then yeh you're entirely correct

    Ax2 5000+
    cheapest board you can find
    2GB cheepo RAM ~$60
    x1950pro
    250GB harddrive
cheap case(cooler master centurion works well)
    some PSU(i'd have to check)
    and that's around $500

USD implies united states dollars, so I'm assuming he's in th US

if you're up to OCing swap in a pentium dual core(NOT a pentium d FYI) and a 965 board

    Thanks Guys

Xelink...can you double check that I get everything that I want :D

Btw...it would be nice if I could get a dual core 2 around 2.6 ghz or somewhere there...

But just wondering I would like everything to come under 500 or around 500 bucks :D
and yes I am in USD
ooh...and by saying everything I mean that like the case...fan...except for mouse, keyboard, monitor because I already got those
Just want a system that works fast and well :) for performance...also can play some of the latest games.. :D
    THanks again

yeh I'll look into getting links

here's a good card for the cash, out of stock but ETA is in 3 days

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814102034
    $20 off discount code
    MC907VGA11

    ax2 5k+
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819103780

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813138059

if your willing to deal with a mail in rebate, this would be THE memory to get(for the cost. has micron d9 ICs and should OC like a champ if that's yout thing. UNDER warranty might I add. DDR2-800 3-3-3 2T or DDR2-800 4-4-4 1T is within reach)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820146565

also one more thing, don't listen to Ohm's law Jr. When it comes to PSUs, if you plan on keeping the system long term.

here's my recommendation for PSU given your budget

    review
    http://jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=24

it's an OEM part but stil carries a warranty. it's a server grade PSU and shoudl power your system just fine(a comparable PSU powers my rig and I likely draw 50% more power than yours would)

    harddrive

    case
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811119094

let me know if it's over, also i left out the burner I'm lazy, they're 30-35$ go SATA, NOT IDE

I think it IS over without the rebates, but it's probably just under with them.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16827106040

EDIT: it's around 540-560 after rebates+shipping. let me do some pruning when I get a chance.
also consider borrowing a burner from another system as that would put it within the price bracket you're looking for.

Thanks Xelink...I will see if I can get the burner off some other system at school's lab or somewhere

btw you left out the processor...

    Thanks again though :P

Also I will be building another computer with my friend (his money) for him..haha
So I will contact you for that next time he says he wants to do it :P

    Thanks
    -Zain :D
