With all the games out, i need a new graphics card. I have a prebuilt Sony Vaio, so its not custom made. I was wondering if I could just buy ANY card or do I need to buy a specific company like nivida or ATI? This computer came with a ATI x300/500 card. Could you guys suggest any?

I also have a laptop with an integrated gfx card. I was wondering if I could put in a new Graphics card in it (or have someone profesional)

    Thanks

not too sure about the laptop as those tend to have a fair bit of deviation, in that case gogole is your friend.

for the desktop, google to check as to whether or not it has a PCI-e port. it sounds liek it does but just to be safe.

as for company both nVidia and ATi work and depending on what games you're looking to play and your budget you should chooseone product over another, we can help you on that(and FYI for bang/$ it's about 5-50 right now with each market segment trading places when it comes to overall performance)

I have done some research about the Laptops Graphics Card. You cant change a integrated chip inside of a laptop xD So your stuck with it and cant put a new one.

I would be a dick and say read the pinned threads.
    instead I'll just quote it.

    http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-138.zip

download that and then tell us the make of the motherboard and we can do the appropriate research for you. I'm willing to bet that it has a PCI-e port, but better safe than sorry.

also, while you're at it, what's your budget for a card and what do you want it for?

Yup the built-in gfx card on your laptop is basically stuck there, it shares memory with your RAM so playing games on it is a bad idea.
As for the Desktop PC about 98% of games work on Nvdia so thats a better option.

^about 98% of games work on the ATi side of things too

    http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

    overall bang/$ cards
    7600GS/x1650GT - x1650GT
    7600GT / x1650XT - tie
    7900GS/ x1900GT, x1950gt, x1950pro - tie overall but slightly in the x19x0's favour
    7900GTX/ x1950XT - x1950
8800GTS/HD 2900XT - this really depends, it looks like the 2900 is the card of the future, but here and today the 8800s are cooler faster and notably cheaper. bang/$ goes to the 8800
8800GTX/HD2900XT - bang/$ is about the same on these. see above.

again though, the card for you depends on the games you play, what settings you want etc.
I'll tell you that the 8800GTS is a good solid card @ ~250-270USD and handles most of what's thrown at it pretty damn well.

According to that program (Program Report Here) I have a PCI-Express.

I was planning on playing games like Bioshock, MoH Airborne. I downloaded these demos and said i couldnt run it. Also I just think that its time to upgrade my gfx card. I was wondering though which card is pretty cheap but can run these games normally.

    I'd probably say x1950pro

    http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/biosho...mance/page6.asp

was lazy and didn't do a ton of research, but does 1600*1200/ 1680*1050 reasonably well.

so it should do fairly well @ 720p, 720p being 1280*720

so you should be in for CLOSE to an xbox360 level of experience if you get a x1950pro. you might lag at some points though your CPU is weak, the pentium 4s and pentium Ds were the worst choice of CPUs you could have gotten as far as gaming goes.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....amp;Order=PRICE

FYI the reason it couldn't run them was because the x300s and x500s lack pixel shader 3 support.

The first one is the best and I'd go with that card. Much stronger then zhe 8600GT. Make sure your power supply can handle the card.
