something roughly to the effect of a upper tier c2d, 2Gb RAM and an x1950pro

    e6750 100GBP
    http://overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-157-IN

    x1950pro 65GBP
    http://overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-063-OK

    board 50GBP
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....rodid=MB-003-EA

    RAM 35GBP
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....id=8&subcat=144

    HDD 40GBP
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....d=14&subcat=768

    drive 15GBP
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....d=10&subcat=185

    case 60GBP
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....catid=7&subcat=

    PSU 60GBP

something roughly like that, I'll look for better deals etc. sometime tomorrow since I have the day off. prices exclude VAT and shipping and some other stuff and yeh, i can probably find some other stuff. Also are you overclocking or not overclocking? if you are OCing, drop the CPU a bit(to say an e6600) and get a better heatsink(though getting the HSF is nice too even without OCing since the stock is somewhat noisey)

HSF 25GBP or 30GBP(cheaper one would likely be more than sufficient even without a fan on it it cools better than the stock intel HSF and is close to the ultra-120 while weighing less and being less bulky)

also if you're kickass, try finding these aprts at other etailers liek dabs.co.uk and voerstock.co.uk or wherever. similar parts shoudl also work, though if in doubt ask and I'll do my best to answer.

I more than likely won't be OCing. I need good stock performance.
Plus VAT and shippings comes to Total : £522.72

    Not bad i suppose
I liek the idea of buying a seperate PSU, higher quality than the standard ones you find you get with cases. ^_^

well 90% of the time the ones which come with cases are absolute ----...
the corsair 520HX will basically run one quadcore CPU all the RAM in the world, a bunch of harddrives and CD/DVD drives, and oen top tiered graphics card all without issue.

again I'll look around and I should be able to get it to cost a bit less.

about the best i can do with my limited knowlege of UK pricing. should be around 500GBP exact.

as for an OS, consider a community project over at xtremesystems.org called XSos v2. It's partially sponsored by MS and is based off of 2000 XP and server 2003 and as long as you have atleast one valid M$ OS lisence you're allowed to use it legally.
