Well up to yesterday i had this problem where any search engine i used like google or yahoo it would sometime redirect me to some other sites i've scanned with several antispyware and an anti virus and it doesn't pick up anything. It only started happening yesterday so i decided to try a system restore to the day before and it wouldn't work. The system restore says that it restores to any automatic restore point it creats or a manual one that i created or whenever i install new software. But when i try it the automatic restore point and when i've installed software it gives me the same error saying it cannot restore to that date. I've used system restore several times 2 that i can recall. Can someone help me get my system restore working again?

to tell you the truth its never worked for me ..

i disabled it for this reason .. say you got a trojan .. if system restore is on and you have eliminated the trojan , it will come back again and again since the restore backs up the system

i would say adware got into your system .. disable system restore and get adaware or a similar program to get rid of it ... what programs have you used at the moment?

Have you used your anti-virus in safe mode? And what Anti-Virus is it?.. if you don't mind me asking. If you still have your xp cd, you can probably run the repair utility.

windows defender, webroot spysweeper(outdated but still removes those ad things and it tells you when new things are installed)outdated since last year, and norton 2005 outdated as of april this year. I've always heard that adaware was 'spyware itself' from people and i heard that spybot might find it but i don't want to install extra adware software unless very necessary. I know norton blows and have been meaning to get a new free anti virus between AVG and avast, personally i want to try avast since it has so many of those shields

Never tried running it in safe mode always thought that running anti virus in safe mode and regular mode was the same except that in safe mode the system restore issue wouldn't happen. I think all i have is the custom restore disks

Running anti-virus in safe mode is different. It's the best way to find nasty things that CAN"T run in safe mode. Well in my experience anyways. I've also heard of some instances of people having to shut off restore and reboot their pc and turn it on again. But i'm not to confident in that to tell you to do it. IF it is a virus or trojan. I would think of running Adaware and Spybot together. Other than that i'm unsure on how to go about fixing that problem. I can't remeber in my time in using PC's having that problem. Also I think that some version of Norton can causee a problem on System Restore not working properly. Try disabling Norton and Auto Protection permanently until the system restores. At any rate hope everything works out.

Just scanned in safe mode and found nothing. My norton's auto protection is automatically disabled since i am not paying for it anymore. Which would you recommend Spybot or adaware?

Heard of those and sounds like that could be it. But still need a program that will actually find it if you figure it out tell me :D
