Im interested in trying this distro of linux, but I'm not sure if I should put it on a new hard drive or a external hard drive

I assume internal hard drives are much faster, as my mobo supports SATAII

Installing Ubuntu is easier on an internal drive. Ubuntu Feisty (7.04) has full SATAII support and it should work out of the box.

    just oartition your drive

the current ubuntu disk sets you up in a live enviroment.

popo in disc, boot from it
    run gparted(go to terminal[main menu>accessories>>terminal] type "gparted")
    partition some space for ubuntu

    open firefox
go to install ubuntu onto the harddrive
browse the ent while it's installing
    FIN

I have Ubuntu, I am dual booting XP with it though.

I am gonna uninstall it, I don't really see the advantages...

I installed and used Ubuntu for quite a while.

Careful it doesn't ------ up your partitions, like it did to mine.

I've always gone with GNOME, but it's largely a matter of preference and you can change at any time.

It usually only messes up if you install ubuntu, then xp, cause xp installs its own boot manager completely disregarding the ubuntu one that's already there.

if you never tried Linux before you may be disappointed in Ubuntu... give www.GetPCLinuxOS.com a try... it uses KDE instead of Gnome witch is better for newbies
