Basically, I'm upgrading from my single-core 3.4 intel, and I have a little question about my motherboard's compatability with dual cores. I have an ASUS P5WD2 Premium: LINK. And I'm upgrading the CPU to this: LINK. The website says that my motherbaord is Dual Core Ready, but I wanna know if its compatable with only older dual cores...or all dual cores. Also, if anyone has a better precessor to recommend, please do. (FYI...the one I picked out is about $200)

yes as far as i can tell your mobo is compatible with the processor you have selected.

the e6750 is a good chip, i have an e6600 and i love it, have not had a single problem with it.

I checked the difference between them and the only thing I could find was a difference in core/bus ratio and a $30 difference. I have to ask simply...which one is better?

your board's more than likely incompatible. it uses an intel 955 chipset and from my recollection 955 doesn't support c2ds. Some 945 does, some 975 does, all 965 does, but not 955

if you have the P5WD2-e which is based off fo 975x then there might be hope though I wouldn't think so

also(atleast not officially) the baords don't support 1333mhz FSB CPUs. you'de have to go to a 1066 CPU unless you want to overclock the board

the e6750 is made on a bit newer manufacturing process, runs at lower volts runs cooler overclcoks better and some other stuff. the down side is that it's on the 133mhz FSB by default(atleast if you're an overclocker) so you have to push your baord and RAM a lto ahrder just to get the same level of overclocking as one would on a 1066CPU. the e6600 has a 9 multiplier while the e6750 only has an 8 multiplier. Not relveant to non-OCers though.
