Well, I got a old dell dimension 4700 so I put my graphics card in, my 2gb of ram in as well.. So im installing the drivers for the graphics card, and my pc just shuts down.. I open it up, its pretty hot, so im guessing it overheated.. then i try to restart, and the hard drive is telling me its missing some windows files.. so i open up a NEW windows cd home edition, put it in, and it says it couldnt read a file while loading the windows xp cd... i try again and it still wont work, so then, i put in my sata 160gb drive, and as soon as it loads windows, smoke starts coming out of it..... and i hear some noise from it.. so im guessing its ------ed... then i put my THIRD drive in, this time PATA, and guess what? ITS MISSING A WINDOWS FILE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!! wtf? is it me doing something, or is it the PC? btw is that sata 160 drive dead? or can i return it to WD? Merged Post: um, well, looks like one of the harddrives that was giving me the windows error started to work, now I have 2.5gb of ram and looks like my windows disk did work after all... wierd..now all i have to do is just install my new processor and we're in business Ok this is really weird... i ordered a x1650GT a new one from newegg, and i just tested it, and it looks like the box also says 256gddr3... but as u can see in this pic, theres 512gddr3, i think, so thats good right? sounds to me like you fried the drive... but Im no expert... btw, was the ram the right type for your pc?... EDIT: just saw your new post, glad to see I was wrong
That memory thing can be a windows bug . I have a 512 one and in vista it showed me I had 1024 =D so I called support and they said it's just was windows bug ( Got that bug @ visa home premium )
LOL nooo i ment I put in 2gb so im suppose to have 2.5, just didnt show up before. Also my monitor is turning off every couple of min, maybe its the psu with 305w? lol i think ill change it
Yea bro, I am like 99% sure it's just a bug . Go to www.canyourunit.com do a test and see how many memory shows up in the gpu section .
lol thats the same as srtest.com and thats the whole reason why i wanted to run a check, it said 512 when i first tried and heres the results You have - 512.0 MB
