Well, due to my limited knowledge of bandwidth and all those techie terms, I have a suggestion.

Every few hours I notice that I can't get on GR 'cause there's just too many people online at the moment. However, probrably around only 100-200 of those are members, the other 500-600 are guests. Wouldn't it help a LOT if we hid some of the more useful forums to guests, so that either they sign up, or they don't and leave us alone?

It's just really starting to bug me ._.

Well, allowing guests to post would lead to tremendous spam, both people and bots. It would be a hassle going through the forum on where guests can post. I've seen it on a lot of forums, they all closed it down within a week.
However, hiding everything from the guests isn't that good of an idea either. I don't know about you, but I rarley ever join forums that require to register to view what they have.
    Just my two cents.

yeh every time i look there as well theres always about 500-700 guests no matter what time of day it is and only a few hundred members also.

There are a few topic areas that have the protected forum shown so they shouldnt be able to see whats in the topic, and then theres loads of forums where u can just get into it without a post. But yeh it is a shame they dont register on here. But then GR's been like that all the time in the 2 years ive been here i guess but it does have 88k members..

Maybe instead of protecting tags and LPs, protect renders? O_O

Then again..that would be ripping galore.

Yea it is a good idea, but there is just one problem. I know quite a few of the members that are on here quite often originally came for the renders or tutorials and then stuck around eventually. I am one of those members.

Also, if anyone is like me....forums that I can NOT see ANYTHING, I do not even bother signing up because I do not want to take the time (yes very short time, but time none the less) and sign up for something I do not even know what they have.

So although the error's do come up once in awhile...I maybe average one a day...and I am on a lot. I have just gotten used to it, and it is a small price to pay to get the amount of members we do.

then there should be some forum visible to only guests with a small amount of renders and other things. And the main renders forums and stocks forums ect. be only visible to members. After looking at a couple of renders on this forum i signed up, and people who get directed here will probably sign up anyway.

    I average like 10 a day =/. Literally.

I'm not saying hide EVERYTHING, just hide tags, LPs, prem tuts, renders, and that's about it.

    EDIT:

    I like Sord's idea

And to back up my point, just now, it was taking me roughly 7 minutes to go to a forum/topic and to post. Only on GR, on all other websites its fine.

dont you need 1 post to see any tut, sig, and LP

And dont you need 60 post to see the prem renders

So you have to sign up anyways to see the section you want hidden from guest right?

    Merged Post:

just logged out and back in, you can see normal tuts as guest and you can see resources. The ones that should only matter to guests

I think a lot of people come here for the renders too, which is why there are so many 1 post premium members.

So, just hide renders and resources plus the ones we have hidden already.

with GR youre going to be joining because it is the biggest graphics forum. you join it because of all the members, and browsing a little wont be a huge deal. you dont have to close down all the forums, but if guests could only see a few so they could see the activity they would still register and the guests who really dont care would leave.

At first, the only reason I joined was the renders, not because of how popular the forum was. All tutorials should be hidden imo since this isn't really a full blown graphics site, the main attraction is renders.
