hm well .. a few months ago i was tending to go towards the C2D way but i changed my mind and still stick with AMD :)

Was going to get E6600 & P5WDH but then i started looking into AM2 - If i find a good deal on C2D then i might switch again lol

    c2d e4300 + bsel mod = x6800 for around 60pounds.

I can be almost certain that the XLC uses micron d9.
also almost entirely certain that anything rated above 1GHz is D9.
    http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(18700)OCZ-2G...al-Channel.aspx

i'd go for that due to the more liberal warranty(up to 2.4V +/- 5% so in reality 2.52V)

though to be honest, at the price I'd try to aim for cheaper RAM. performanc diference is not that high.

Xel: The crucials I selected are cheaper and higher binned D9 then the Pc8800 of OCZ ;)

    I didn't see your link...

if that's the case though... well I'm sure you can guess my thoughts.
to me paying notably more for a slightly higher binned product is stupid 9 out of 10 times.

    humm...
    http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(14777)Geil-U...al-Channel.aspx
almost half the price and it looks like d9(or rather D9 "rejects" in the past Geil used some) or perhaps something similar.

(FYI micron sells very low binned chips to other companies that's what I'm tinking that geil is using, just look at th volts rating)

voltages don't say much, team xtreem dark which has promos Ics are rated
2 - 2.35v and they say it can even handle up to 2.6v due 8 layer pcb.

I dont think it's stupid as you get where you pay for and most of the times eve higher. I'm quite sure the geil wont do ddr 1200 cas5 on 2.25/2.3v while I've seen many many users doing that on their 8500 crucials. Still if you are just a normal user cheaper ram will sufficience.

if it's the same stuff it's not TOO bad considering it's half the price...

well not a normal user :D i do about everything

    - Gaming
    - Rendering as in 3D rendering in C4D / 3DSMax
    - Music/Video Editing

and also using other authoring tools :)

Well from what ive read ill have your opinions in mind :) I see geil is on the board so have to read up on them ;) Ive only used Corsair so i didnt know what other companies are good beside crucial and OCZ but Geil looks promising & is cheaper as well by like 50%!!!

    Thanks guys

get Geil off microdirect, then buy parts off ebuyer or scan.co.uk.
Ebuyer has an E6600 for around £140 and has free shipping over £50.

Price cuts are coming for C2D's on July 22nd, and same for AMD I do believe, so wait 2 weeks is what I suggest. I think the price cuts will make the AMD's more attractive.

c2d e6420 if prices are comparable to what they are in the US...
if the e6400 was slightly faster than the 6000+ the e6420 only sweetens the deal.
even if you don't OC, it's the better chip in most(not every don't read this wrong and start bringing up specific cases where the opposite is true) circumstances.
