I'd recommend a new mouse. Return it if that's not the problem.

A school computer used to have odd things happening, such as things disappearing when clicked and the computer randomly opening things, so after numerous punches by me, my teacher put a new keyboard/mouse on it and it worked. Beats me what was wrong.

    1. If its a optical, get a new one, the laser is the weak to reach the surface and make a strong movement( I had a cheap crappy on)

Now I have a mx510 <3 it, its a gaming mouse made by Logitech, new Wireless MX1000 with the new technology 'laser' is out :)

    lol, i'm done.

Yeah i've had this happen on a few computers, changing the mouse fixed it on em all. As S1lence said i heartily recommend the MX1000, costs a lot but tis well worth it. The best mouse I've ever used
