    think about ti this way

for general use so long as you're not an idiot, it shouldn't matter.

    here are the highlights though

1 macs are designed for idiots
2 windows sucks(though you can install any other OS, even OS X)
3 macs are overpriced for what you get
4 the new macbooks have nice LED backlit screens
5 software support on OSX is still somewhat limited. Get used to virtualization.

so basically ehh. I'd personally just buy a standard PC and slap on a linux distribution and dual boot linux winblows.

mac. anything with the word "editing" in it means you should get a mac. whoever says macs dont have support is lying. there are close to 1 million mac-specific developers.

macs are just fun too. macbooks come with isight built in which means you get photo booth which is a system seller in itself. Also, EA just announced that they are going to start releasing all of their PC games simultaneously on mac. next month, theyre going to get macs caught up with harry potter, NFS: Carbon, BF 2142, and something else (i forget what). then in august theyre going to start simultaneous by releasing mac version of the new madden and tiger woods.

BUT! i would wait. OS 10.5 is coming out in October. If you get a mac then, you get 10.5 pre-installed. if you buy it now, you'll have to pay $129 to get it.

gah! i remembered the game (and its a doozy):

    Command & Conquer 3

I'm guessing you run Mac OS.
Seriously, why do you say this kind of stuff? Windows has good apps for editing, videos, photos, whatever. Also, I used to want a mac, but I got less impressed with it when I realised that Linux has had "spaces" since 1999, and is functional too, and most distributions are free.
Macs cost more for the same amount of things. Graphics are also a weak point on Macs.
Those Mac vs Pc things are totally ridiculous.

Just like xelink said. Get a PC and dual boot windows and a linux OS. Macs are extremely expensive for what they actually are.

You obviously don't know the definition of PC. Look it up. And obviously, you have never built. Anyhow, I've always been anti-mac.

I have a PC for a desktop and a Mac for a laptop, so I can tell you each (IMO of course)

    PCs are...

+ Great for software game compatibility
+ Great for hardware upgrades and customization
    - Often use a lot of security updates
    - Not as appealing as a GUI

    Macs are...

+ Awesome for basic ----- stuff (e.g. Microsoft Office, iWorks)
+ Very good for anything artsy (e.g. Adobe (and ex-Macromedia), Final Cut, Garage Band)
    + Easy software installation
    - Very low in game and software compatibility
    - File format issues (only sometimes!)

    PCs
uhh isn't actually have security updates a positive? Regardless I have them disabled too much BS if using certain versions of windows
GUI. I'm with you on that. but really now WHO CARES? I sure he hell don't

    Mac
    everything would be, no seriously
    fairly true
software installation is pretty easy on most platforms so that's all but worthless.
