    iPod Video. Absolutely.

The Zune bombed. Even Microsoft (which has a history of standing by unpopular products) is trying to brush it under the rug. its not a horrible product, but it's crippled by DRM software. Also, the wireless Zune-Zune transfer feature is basically useless (because nobody has a Zune).

This is on top of the fact that the iPod has great customer support.

Is he going to buy music from a online store like the Zune Market Place or iTunes. If hes just going to rip music id get a Zune, but he if buys music online id get a iPod Video all the way.

Eh.. ^ iPod can rip music too... I get music, music videos, and movies on it all the time.
Also you can buy movies off of iTunes which are crystal clear. I'm talking about tv like. The quality on it is great. I've had one for almost 2 years now and have yet to have a problem with it. When I did have slight issues I called them up and got quick customer support. The iTunes store also provides good customer support. I lost all my info (and $25 I had on my account) and they transfered it all back and I was able to re download and get my money back on. My friend has a zune and I just didn't like the controls. iPod is much easier to use for me. If he is looking for a Movie/Music player get him an iPod video and if he wants a high capacity MUSIC player then get him a zune and save a couple of bucks.
Also I drop my iPod on a consistent basis because I run with it and I must say it's very dourable.
Since he isn't a techy guy the ipod would also be good for him because of the simplicity of iTunes. Plug the iPod in, automatically updates the songs/playlists (of your choice) and bam you're done.

(iPod also plays the screen at 320 by 240 with a wide/fullscreen option)

Personally, you don't need to get either. If your pc is relatively old, in the 4-5 years old region (like mine), you'd be better off not using a RAM eating program like iTunes.
iTunes Music Store is now even better now though, with higher bit rate and non DRM music.
By the way, I have a iPod 5g (30gb). All of them can play videos with a bit of hacking or modding, albeit on a small screen or in black and white.

I have a zune and I'm not really happy with it.. Maybe the Zune video is different but the zune m kinda sucks.. The headphone jack is messed up and 80% of people that bought have the problem... So tbh I would go with Ipod video since I haven't heard bad stuff about it but the Zune is also good.

the only bad thing about an ipod is that you should get a good case because it gets easily scratched and junk

Zune, iPod will cause you more trouble and scratch more than you believe.

Anything will get scratched if you're careless, regardless of what material it is made out of..

I'd go with an Ipod myself.

I say Zune is better. Doesnt really matter cuz their both the same.
Zune gives you videos, bigger screen, music, FM radio, ability to add custom background, and even allows you to send songs. The songs however, last only 3 days or 3 plays.

I have a Zune and I love it.
