why did you just quote a post that is over a year old to tell the poster that he is right?

these rules all seem pretty obvious and it's good that they're in place

Any render is a rip from the company that created the character.
The renderers have no right to cut it and then share it. All they did was cut out a character made and drawn by acompany. You need to company's written permission as well. I don't see the difference by ripping from DA, or Ripping from the Blizzard Concept Art.

^ Same here..they have it copy righted but I dont see how rendering it is hurting the picture or the artist in anyway..if anything it is getting them more well known..

i saw a pic on DA a while ago called flock of crows its an pic of itachi. the artist who colored it was pokefreak. i sent pokefreak a pm asking his permission to render the piece. he messaged me back and said it was fine and to go ahead and do it if i wanted to.

does that mean i am allowed to render the piece if i have his expressed writteon consent?? also i can provide proof if necessary but i wanted to make sure b4 i attempted it

Still making little sense, so in case...

If you take ANY image from Deviantart that is not certified as a stock, it is ripping and you will find yourself banned. Editing it does not make it yours.

Because they don't assume signature making is a form of art. At first, I believed using renders in signatures was "cheating", you did not draw it yourself and all you were doing was pasting it in as a layer and messing around with it. Now I use renders, but to me it still feels like cheating.

And to answer your question Luk, if someone from dA gives you permission to use somethng, simply copy and paste their message with your work. Also make clear that YOU didn't make the knight, and leave a link to the original artist. Follow any other instructions he has about using it, and you should be fine :).
