Depends on what type of game you want to play, whether it be a shooting game (Counter Strike), Strategy (Supreme Commander), MMORPG, (World of Warcraft), or whatever.

I don't know what CPU, motherboard, video card you have but if you have an on board video card you'll need to upgrade to play First Person Shooter games, because they are on the more intensive side of games. 1.24 GB of RAM is enough to play most games, but I much prefer my 2 GB :D

Just pick something you think would be the most fun and make sure your PC supports it, but for re-playability it'd probably be a good idea to get an online multi player game rather than a single player one.

play counter strike 1.6 ,buy it on www.steampowered.com (download the thing, make an acnt and buy it, download and play).
CS 1.6 can run on just about ANY computer, as long as your not on wireless.

With that graphic card I think the only shooting games you can play are the old ones.. Like cs 1.6 and no you don't need a controller lol.

No controller needed.. And with that vid card you will want a older shooter like Call of Duty 1, CS 1.6, DoD 1.6(<-Gay) etc..

How about Quake 3? Good multiplayer fun there.

And I know it's not a shooter but I highly recommend Starcraft!

Get Starcraft II when it comes out.

It will be the best RTS ever, taking the crown from Stacraft I.

CS 1.6 is still one of the most popular FPS out there. I prefer it over Source because source has screwed up hit boxes.
Yes you will be able to find a server full of people on 1.6
