    Firstly a little introduction,

I am 19 years old and currently working at a local pub in a fairly small town on the coast of queensland in Australia. I live with two friends in a flat, and i enjoy life.

Now to the nitty gritty...the future.

Its been 3 years since i finished highschool. Graduated and left with an above average QCS score (called different things in different places but the tertiary grading system). Since then i attempted university while working at a local supermarket part time to pay the bills. University wasnt my style, i was doing a bachelor of multimedia and i found myself extremely limited by the courses. I was not learning more about digital art or being taken into new mediums. I was instead being taught more about how to write 4000word essays on peices 400x400px in size....which could be fully explained in under 1000 if that...

So i gave university the flick, permanently deferred until i decide to drop altogether or if i take it back up.

Now im also a fairly fit person, i have 9 years of mixed martial arts training under my belt and my father taught me a lot about firearms, he was a top pistol shooter in his younger years.

I am trying to decide what to do with my future now. Digital art for me at this stage is a hobby, a tension releiver.

I have the choice of entering the Australian Army as an infantry officer and serving for 6 years minimum. This would entail high lvl combat and leadership training as well possible overseas deployment. I like this option, this would set me up with a good carea, a huge salary, and the enjoyment of blowing things up. And i have no qualms about fighting and killing if i am required to.

There is the other option though as well. Return to university, and slog through 4 years of scrapping together enough money to live, while spending my waking hours either studying and working on my university or working to pay my bills. All for the chance to enter into the multimedia industry somehow. The end benefits of this option are not assured but if gained, much more richer, and safer.

Personally im leaning to the army. The multimedia hobby is just a hobby for me and a day dream of actually becoming a bread winning excercise. However im not sure if i could stand having to serve for 6 years, i dont like getting tied down to something...

My question to you all is what would u do in my situation? And what are your thoughts? Please feel free to discuss with me i would really like to hear some thoughts.

I would do the Army, just cause it seems to be more of your thing (you're fit, know a great deal about martial arts and firing weapons.) You already tried the University and said that it wasn't your thing.

If it was my choice, and I had your experience, I would go military. That 9 years of MMA would definitely help you out, maybe more than you realize.

Yea, honestly talk it over with family or friends asking life changing questions in a public forum won't get you anywhere.

I'd do the same thing(talking with friends/family) but after reading your situation, the Army would seem like a good choice imo.

thanks man, and im not gonna take this and make a decision on it lol.

But i was interested to know a few opinions and what people would think.

Thing is i have been round the world twice, seen the best and worst of it. I really dont know what i want as a future, but the army at the moment seems as the best means to and end so far.

Sydney is a great city, love the clubs there mate :D

you have started to weigh your options but i think you really need to look at as many of the risks/rewards you will encounter going into either field.

Army- Rewards: honor, serving your country, guaranteed pay/benefits. Risks: death, serious injury, mental instability etc.

Digital Media- Rewards: fame, fortune, and you get to do your hobbies for a living. Risks- failure, not getting hired, little or no pay, no benefits.

so i leave you with this. you have to take risks to recieve a reward, thats the game of life. you and only you can make this decision, if you do decide to go back to school get in contact with a media firm around your area and see about becoming an intern/apprentice that way when you get out of school you have a job lined up or you will have the experience that will look good on a job application. good luck with your decision, i hope everything works out for you in the end.

If i join the military i want to be in the field. Im a fighter at heart, not a tactician, or general in any degree.

School was my mental instability lol.
