Okay, i'm not an uberly smart guy with PC's, I usually just go to PC world and pick what i like, I'm not dumb or anything, I understand specs and cache and etc etc., but then I also don't know what a good deal with prices are and such and how long the PC will stay dated for. Well anyway I want to get a new PC made at a freelance PC place, so ofc I will tell them parts or buy them and they fix it all up for me. I want it to be fairly high end, not too pricey! I heard the Quad cores are getting a price slash soon, if they haven't already, so i may opt for one of those instead of the dual core. Like I said, I'm really not too smart with what will be outdated and when and how long it'll last and such. Hence why i need a bit of help :] Any suggestions are great, Oh and to add, it'll mainly be for gaming and such. -EDIT- And what should I pick, Vista or stick with XP?
seems good, not in tune with that currency, USD here, but the selection is good. E6600 can be overclocked like a beast so i suggest you get an aftermarket cooling for it if u plan on overclocking, make sure u have good performance ram corsair value select isnt good for overclocking, but corsair has an xms series which is XP or VISTA? well vista would let you take advantage of that new DX10, so as long as u get a Dx10 card Vista would perform better

Don't drop in an 8800GTX if your not going to go all the way, drop it down to an 8800GTS 320MB manufactured OC, save yourself $300. Up the ram to 2GB. You will hardly notice a difference in a 10,000 RPM drive and a 7,200 RPM drive, just go with a 250-320GB 7200 drive and save some money that way. Varying on the resolution you run things, that should run nearly everything on high settings with a good enough FPS so you don't skip or lag. If at all in doubt, stick with the 8800GTX, but note that it runs extremely hot, so unless the case is cooled well, you may want to look into adding some additional cooling. EVGA also has an upgrade deal, that if you want to upgrade iwthin 90 days of the card purchase, you just send in the old one, pay thedifference between the old and new cards, and they will ship you out a new one, so if you find the 8800GTS isn't living up to what you wanted, send it back to evga (if you order from them, that is) and upgrade to an 8800GTX. ATM vista also has a lack of ability to run alot of games and programs that weren't made after the release of vista. Personally I would say stick with XP until DX10 games start coming out and things become more compliant.
Yea I'm gonna have 2 gigs RAM anyway, got it upstairs ready! I think I'm gonna stick to the GTX, because my mate has 1 and he's been saying how amazingly good it is, but I'll have to invest in some cooling with it I guess, a bit over £1000 isn't too bad at all for me, I'd rather get a fairly decent PC now and save having to upgrade sometime soon And I'll probably take your advice and get a bigger hard drive, if i wont hardly notice a difference, save some money there. Thing is a few DX10 games are coming out soon, and I was wondering if it's worth going straight to Vista, than XP again and then upgrading to vista later on (In september)
My opinion, if your going with gaming use a AMD Processor. They manage way better than Intel. Oh and get a GeForce if you want less fps.
Don't people learn from reading things? AMD is behind in processors right now. They had a price cut, but so did the Intel Core 2 Duos, and they are ahead (in fact, they're going to have another price cut in a bit over a month). The E6600s are a fine choice. nVidia does have some problems with drivers for Vista, but DX10 hasn't really come yet, so it doesn't matter as much now. The Radeon 2900XT is also not as powerful as the 8800GTX.
i have never heard of palit gfx cards, id recommend going with and EVGA or BFG card (personal prefs but they are good cards)
Go for HIS or eVGA, preferrably the latter for the graphics card, and might I recommend a wait till July 22nd when the Q6600 becomes $266?
