No, however, with the arrival of DX10, and the 8600GT's and 2900XT performing horridly in a DX10 environment, it's a waste of money to do anything else..
my x800gto did perfectly with 1440-900 i think it was.. and 7600gt is supposed to be better.. ill wait for nvidia to come up with something better than 8800 before buying a dx10 card since theres only one game out now anyway for it
having it share system memory DECREASES performance. see system memory usually runs at say 667 MT/s on a 128 bit bus. This bandwidth is also shared with every single other component in the system so the video card onyl gets a fraction of the memory performance the memory on the card runs at an effective 1600MT/s on a 256bit bus so basically the memory on video cards offers well beyond 5 times the bandwidth in most real world situations. besides if you run out of vRAM your system will automatically page it to system RAM. that's why with highend cards which run at high settings and use a lot of memory the quantity of vRAM matters because you are forced to use slow system memory if you run out. on lowend cards, typically the GPU isn't fast enough to play at settings where vRAM used in excess. that crappy 512mb 7300le won't play games as good as a cheaper 7600GT with "only" 256mb vRAM. Merged Post: you my friend. well you're an ignorant fanboy for stating that if you really do believe that. 9800XT>5950ultra x850XT>6800 ultra x1950XTX>7900GTX though this generation of cards is a bit different. 2900XT<8800GTX 2600XT>8600GTS 2600pro>8600GT 2400xt>8500GT usually it's the other way around with nVidia claiming the mainstream and ATi taking the crown. ehh I always buy somewhere between mainstreme and ultra-high end. on an unrelated note, my 8800GTS 640mb arrives tomorrow.
