hmm doubt you can get a real powerful for that, the one i'm gonna get is 1350$ 2gb ram 2.4 ghz dual core proc. geforce 8600 250 HD
c2d e6420 2GB G. Skill Hz Gigashyte DS4 650i 8800GTS 640mb Case take yourm pick, I think flash looks liek ---- prefered by "noobs" so I can't comment here I'm more fo the -----/polished industrial person here PSU Enhance ENP 500 or Corsair 520HX(assuming no SLI) HDD Seagate baracuda 7200.10 w/ PRM(choose your capacity) HSF Thermalright Ultra-120 that should be around your budget, check prices on your own. only DX10 card ATi has out right now is the HD 2900XT and it's turning out to be a disapointment. In somethings the old x1950s are outperforming it. It's about on par with the 8800GTS 640 but around $100-130 more expensive. Improved drivers might improve its performance, but I'm not betting on it being enough to justify the price, extra noise and the extra heatoutput Merged Post: 8600s blow balls(they are litterally only 40% of an 8800GTS and 30% of an 8800GTX), in some cases the 7600s are better and they fail to outperform the x1950XT which is around the same price despite the fact that it's usually around 10-50% faster. The selling point of the 8600s is DX10 compatability, but who cares if it can't play DX10 games worth a damn?

I doubt that you really need a new hd if you are willing to build a new pc. Just find your OEM disc/discs that came with your machine and go to run > cmd > format C: (or whatever you named your drive). This erases EVERYTHING from your hard drive, so I suggest you back up everything, then format. Then just take whatever RAM you can salvage from your machine, buy a compatable motherboard and then buy some AMD/intel xion quadcore with the money you save... Merged Post: sorry to double, but you will need a power supply for that case.
power supply i posted already http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817703005 and about my current computer i am going to give it to my dad
ahhh, that changes some things, dunno then I would go wiht what you have in the post above, it looks like a good machine.
one more thing, you can dual boot vista, but I wouldn't really game on it, drivers are poorly developed under it at this time, up to 50% performance hits when compared to windows XP. on the ATi side it isn't oo bad(though i don't know muchabout R600 drivers under vista) EDIT: use this RAM, cheaper better. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231065 when it comes to RAM, what matters most is the ICs used. the ICs are the actual microchips used. Most RAM "manufacturers" OCz Corsair and toehrs, don't make anything they just assemble and Bin(sort and rank) other's products. that kit uses micron D9GHM, occasional kits used micron D9GCT. GMH is better but GCT is still very comparable(I have 4GB worth of it myself and it does DDR2-1100 without issue) also Core> k8. even the budget Pentium Dual Core(which is Core based) has higher performance/ clock than the Athlon x2s. cheepo allendale. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115013 easy OCer, BSEL mod and you've basically got a cache crippled e6700 for 1/3rd the price. relatively cheap board - may have some issues but if so just RMA for a another one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813127018 or DS3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128042 DS4 is prefered though, great board, can do 520FSB without mods and surely does over 400FSB without much hassle. but if you're trying to cut costs, don't bother. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128044 pick up the price from the harddrve, a 320GB offers ebtter bang/$ and is a bit cheaper. By the time you need the extra 80GB, you can pickup another newer drive for the price diference which is faster and holds more.
Holy cow i didnt honestly think it would overclock that well, from what ive read in about 15 minutes people are saying it over clocks to 2.7 on stock voltages/heatsink/fans and 3.4 with an aftermarket..... Might just have to dive into it(and honestly 2megs of cash beats 512k-1k that amd x2 has) Btw deos that DS4 support PC6400 memory also

I think it'll work fine, but why are you going against the advice to get an Intel P965 board and a conroe or allendale?
