Well, Microsoft's support sucks, so I decided I'd post this here in hope that someone could help. Basically, I have Windows XP Media Center Edition, and I currently have Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 installed on it.

However, I haven't reformatted my HD since February last year, and it's starting to get some problems with junk I have on it from beta testing programs and some random junk my stupid little brother downloaded.

Anyways, to get rid of this stuff, I'm planning to reformat, and I just finished backing up all of my files last night(onto my iPod haha), and I was just about to reformat, and then I thought about Microsoft Office.

According to the thing, you're allowed 3 installations of it. I want to put it on my laptop and a work computer also, meaning that uses up 2 of them, and I already have it on the computer I'm formatting.

I want to know if when I format it and reinstall it, if it will count as a second computer, or if there's some way to transfer the license or something so that I can use it again. Does the CD even block you from installing it more than 3 times, or is that just how many computers you have a license for?

I'd like to know an answer to this sometime today because I want to get the hard drive formatted either today or tomorrow, but I don't want to do it very bad if it's going to use one of my installations. Thanks for your help.

well if its like windows xp then you should be able to install more than just 3 because ive installed my xp on all my computers over and over cause of reformatting with the same key. my dad called them and asked if you could and they said you shouldnt but it will work. idk if thats the case with office 07.

    Hmmm

I don't really want to call them cause it isn't free. Which is part of why I hate Micro$hit support

Yeah, that's kinda what I'm thinking. It's not like they can make the CD stop working after 3 installations or anything. Maybe it's just that the registration can only be done 3 times or something, I don't know. I just want to make sure it will work.

Yeah, I was reading the help files to see if I can find anything and you don't need to register it period. Just some activation, but if its coming from the same IP, I think I should be good. I'm not a business or anything, so I don't think they will care too mcuh.

it will work. it's not like the CD will self destruct if you install it more than 3 times or something

9/10 its says you shouldnt but it will work, so my best bet is to install it on the 2 most important and then test on the least important

Thanks for all the replies guys. I got it reinstalled and it's working fine. It never said anything about "This is computer 2 of 3" or anything like that. I asked my friend Robert who used to work for Microsoft if he knew anything about that, and he said there's nothing they can do to the CD to stop you, but that if you had it on more than three computers, technically they could prosecute you or something, but they don't come after people much anyways. Anyways, its no big deal. Thanks for all the help.
