Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813131045 RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820146118 I know that this ram will work with this motherboard, as its a 5-5-5 1.8v memory set, which is what the Intel 965 Chipsets require, but I also noted how cheap this ram is. Is the quality on it very good? Is there another set of ram that is GUARENTEED to work upon booting with that motherboard that is of higher quality?
I have the Asus p5n32-e sli mobo and the Corsair XMS2-6400C4 TwinX 2x 1gig and i have had no problem with it at all also Asus does recommend all Corsair memory.Great board btw i would buy nothing but Asus for a mobo. The timings on the mushkin are quite high and you may have to increase the voltage on it for better performance.
Unfortunately, the last high end computer I bought had an Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe motherboard with Corsair XMS2 6400 ram and I had to RMA the board not once, but twice, and it still had stability issues while running the ram, so the P5N is out of the question for me atm. Later researching showed that the board itself is extremely picky and the ram the company had installed had a voltage which gave stability issues when the bios adjusted it to an efficient level (ie, crashing and causing checksum errors, bios errors, etc. every... couple of hours, forcing restalls, etc.). Figured the P5B would be the next best thing in their line up, and it seems to have a great stability with a lot of components. Just really wondering if I can trust $80 ram, even though its a newegg recommended set, as well as a top seller.
As far as i am aware Mushkin are a reliable ram i have also heard that the geil ram is very good too i personally havn't tried either,i am sure it would be fine, have you considered asking the tech support for compatibility issues. You could always RMA it if it turns out not what you expected i guess lol
Im not questioning which will work, I just have had personal ram / mobo compatability issues in the past with my machine not booting or having stability issues, and that mushkin meets all the standards that board states it need to boot correctly. but: 1) I am not sure if I want to pay $80 for 2GB ram (little cheap) 2) I am not sure if other voltage / timers are capable of being guarenteed to initially boot so the BIOS can adjust to new voltage / timings for the ram to run at an optimal clocking.
mushkin ram is good, and all ram prices are down bro.... the market dropped a lot about a month ago, so really good ram is going cheap.
DDR2 is very cheap these days, expensive ram won't guarantee you it'll be 100% ''compatible''. Every ddr2 stick should work 100% in any ddr2 motherboard. The 1.8 needed to boot at high frequency's was only on the older bioses/revisions, all motherboards have now updated revisions and bioses. The ram has a SPD file, which will tell the motherboard what's the stock frequency of the ram and what voltage it should be running at that speed.. Other times then 5-5-5-15 @ DDR2 800 are NOT garanteed by the manufactor. You should be looking for reviews for that ram kit on google, still, not every kit is the same. My Corsair 5400C4 kit, is rated for Cas4 at ddr2 675, and it can easily do cas4 at ddr2 800, with a minor voltage increase and cas5 with no voltage increase.
basically just make sure it can do the stock SPD at 1.8V all you need to know. many DDR2-800 kits can do 800 4-4-4 but there is an occasional kit that can't if you're worried, buy a cheap 128mb stick use it to get into BIOS and up the voltage, then shut down swap the RAM and go. remember, this si basically an SPD thing where the board defaults to 1.8V the issue exists on everything but 975X boards but I haven't been hearing much about it lately, likely implying that manufacturers have just loosened their SPD ratings for highend RAM. They're still guaranteed to teh same specs. also fo all the things, do OC your RAM if the OC is covered under warranty, same goes for GFX card. If it's under warranty, go for it. EDIT: FYI RAM is fine if you're worried about ti starting 800 5-5-5 is easy consider this board. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128044 read the review on VRzone, it's good board.
