I'm sure that at least a few of the people who visit these boards know what Odyssey of the Mind is; if you don't, it's hard to explain xD (this site tries to explain it. Please ignore the horribly childish design, the site does have to appeal to second graders =P). This site still isn't really helpful... so I'll try to explain it myself. Odyssey of the Mind is an extra-curricular activity that usually is sponsored by the school you attend. The goal of OotM is to 'solve' a problem that is given to you at the beginning of the semester by creating an 8-minute skit that meets certain criteria. The criteria for this year's skits can be seen at this site. The program is for 1st grade all the way through 12th grade (and college, though there are very few college teams) and moves through three stages of competition: Regional, State, and World. At each competition, your skit is scored based on how creative/funny it is, and whether or not you met the criteria. The skits must be ENTIRELY created by the students; there can be no outside assistance (adults cannot build or give instructions on how to build ANY part of the backdrop/skit). The two teams which receive the highest scores will move on to the next level of competition. Basically, it's just a lot of fun For those who already know about OotM, you probably know that starting this past Wednesday and ending this morning was the World Finals event in Michigan, where this year 810 of the best teams from around the world met to compete in the highest tier of competition. Anyway, my team placed 1st in both regional and state competition (woot! Florida ftw ^_^) so we got to head over to Michigan for world finals. After performing our skit and spontaneous exercise (a problem to solve in a very limited amount of time, with no way to know what to expect (and therefore no way to prepare). These are ALL about creativity in a time-starved situation), we pin traded a bit (any true OMer will know how important that part is xD) and then headed over to the award ceremony. Well... maybe this article will help explain what happened next. Guess what team I'm on? EAU GALLIE! We got first place at World competition!  I never, ever dreamed we would actually place first! I still can't believe that we won... it's so exciting to me Anyway, I would love to hear from anyone else who went to World Finals, I possibly could have met you and we never would have known it I figured this was worth posting, I'm very happy ^_^
I dont think my school has it, which is really stupid because it sounds like something I would want to do. Congrats on the first place!
Thanks for the support you guys I was hoping that someone who was involved visited these boards so we could see if I met him/her there xD. That would be interesting
