    "Windows Fiji, then Windows Vienna

    May 1st, 2006

Windows codename Fiji, or Vista R2 is now scheduled to deliver before Windows Vienna. Windows Fiji is planned to be released in 2008, while Windows Vienna had its estimated release date in 2010. Due to the recent Windows Vista delay the domino effect could cause these other two versions of Windows to also be delayed, however the schedule disruption will not be significant."

hmmm... I had winxp for about 5 years and now I've been using vista for about 5 months.

In my opinion, Vista overcomplicates things like simply deleted a shortcut, etc. However, the extra security is the biggest plus to me. Also, the vista applications like the new msoffice/moviemaker/dx10 etc etc were probably my favorite part.

Yeah, I hate the new WLAN interface; XP's was so much cleaner. I don't like the over-flashy design either.

The security is an acceptable point, but it's so minor that you'd expect pretty much any OS nowadays to have security up to a certain standard.

To me, Vista looks better, but I know of only two people who have it and like it. I have not yet tried it, but I prefer the skin on Vista than XP. I will not be switching any time soon though.

im actually a bit scared of trying vista

im getting a dual core cpu soon, and was going to think of upgrading to vista (have xp home atm) and not sure how it will cope with my home network and everything else (including gaming on a nVidia card, heard bad bad things about it)

Is there much reason to actually switch over to Vista over xp home?

I haven't messed with the full version much, but I had put up the Beta on dual boot. To be honest, I never really found much that was worth anything to me. My little brothers liked the new games haha, but I never noticed much improvement except for the upgrades to the GUI. It's because of this that I never put out the money to purchase it. The complete version may be better, but I still don't plan on upgrading. XP is good enough for me at the moment, and until Micro$hit abandons it completely, I think I'm going to stick with it.

the security on vista pisses me off
i can no longer edit my registry or edit .ini files
Vista uses 600 MB of my 2GB compared to XP only using 100 MB
i wish i had stayed with XP when i got my new computer

I have always lived my life by the theory: If I do something I do it to the very best of my ability until in my eyes it is perfect.
I believe this is what ms should have done.

sorry for straying off from current posts, but i have a little experience with Vista.

In my opinion Vista looks nice, sounds nice, but when your on there your stress levels can go up kinda fast, the over organized things, and as for the fact you can erase your own recycle-bin well thats ridiculous. Also that it runs into program difficulties fast, and sometimes you have to re-install it again just to fix it and even then a few days later you have to re-install it all over again, thats a real pain. I like XP home edition more than vista, its less organized in the good sense of it, and Vista is just to glossy. Vista can also make a few things good such as the search thing in the start-menu, but thats about the only thing I liked other than its looks and even then I found it too transparent for nice looks, so my official opinion is stick with XP and let Vista die out and let Bill Gates have another shot at making a good computer.
