Im thinkin about building me a computer for under $600. I do a little gaming but am more likely going to use it for making videos and graphic design. What do you guys think?

Also im trying to add a capture card if not get a dvd recorder. I already have Windows XP Media Center as well as a mouse I do need a keyboard though.

This is what I was thinking...

Processor + Mobo Combo: Thinking about getting something from a local store that has really good combo deals.

    Harddrive: 200 Gig - 8 mb cache - 7200 RPM *$59.99

    Cd/Dvd Burner: Samsung - Sata - Lightscribe - Dual Layer *$38.99

    Memory: CORSAIR ValueSelect - 2GB (2 x 1GB) - DDR2 *70.98

    Video Card: Sapphire - X1900GT - 256MB *$126.12

PSU + Case Combo: POWMAX - 400W Power Supply - ATX Mid Tower *$34.99

You dont think I should just wait until my psu dies? I had a crappy psu that lasted me about 2 years and saved me money in the long run.

in the long run crappy PSUs are less efficent(and use more power) and they slowly destroy the components they're powering.

highly doubt it saved money in the long run.

it's OK to get a somewhat cheap PSU, but a crappy PSU is "ehh..."

not to be a dick, but give us your budget including EVERYTHING and we'll see what we can do...

    EDIT: I'm stupid... title duh

    EDIT2: did some math...

    HDD 60
    DVD 40
    RAM 70
    GFX 130

    subtotal -300

that leaves you with 300$ for a CPU board a case and PSU, plenty...

(I'm asuming your'e going to overclock, 2.6-3.0Ghz should be reasonable)
    CPU $70
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819103046
    board $70
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813138026
    HSF $35
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835186134

    subtotal $175

leaving ~100 for a case and PSU
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811129015

there is obvious leeway based on preferences but you get the idea.

Ya I guess I could agree with you on the PSU but I kinda got to spend as little as possible since I dont work : /

Im spending money from my savings so im trying to spend as little as possible. I really have $700 but if I can id rather spend under $600.

Theres a store here called Frys and just about every day they have extremely good sales so I guess im going to try to pick up a few things this week. Last week there was really good mobo combo deals and a 7600 GT EVGA for 63$, so hopefully this week I can get a good deal.

plan on throwing the PSU away if you buy it.

i have that case myself. to be honest the build quality is poor.

ehh i'm crazy i've shifted away form "1337" more towards polished and -----.

I live by them too sometimes they have great deals other time s----.

c2d + motherboard combo for $120 that they have isn't all too bad...

and I got a 7600GT there myself, only $73 around 6 months ago...

if you look though, what I did suggest WAS under $600...

Ya I sure like what you put down as well as what your requested when I built my other comp. a while back and it turned out great, but I figured I could wait another week or so for some good frys deals and get better mobo.

BTW since I know you know quite a bit about computers have you heared about anything new that will lower prices of computer parts like a new Video Card or Processor(other than the griffin even though its not coming for a while)?

intel price cuts on july 22nd.

also in a relatively shrot period of time intel should be launching Pentium Es which are basically core 2 duos with less l2 cache.

a $70 pentium dual core e2300(or w/e the model is since i forget) should overclock phenominally well and would offer excellent bang/$

FYI the boards that Fry's bundle with it's deals are fairly crappy FYI. atleast as far as OCing goes. a c2d e4300+board combo isn't too bad, Bsel mod the CPU to the 266strap and then OC the board to around 300-333FSb and you've got overall system performance comparable to that of e6700

no it's a "different" CPU, the e4300 is only going down to $113

basically it's like an e4300 but with less l2 cache.
