If you don't have the installation disks, you will need to either call HP or go to their website, and order the disks for your computer. I believe that they cost something like $30 or 35 dollars.

Well before you go re-formatting your HD try this. Before your computer gets to the windows screen, boot into safe mode. Then try a system restore to a date that worked before.

it sounds like he has the blue screen of death, and if that's the case he can't use safemode either. his only option is to buy/borrow/download a windows xp cd and install it.

He said his computer just restarts after it gets to the windows screen. My computer used to do this too, and I just booted up into safe mode and did a system restore and it worked fine again.

    consider XS OS v2.

it's based on 2000, XP, and windows server 2003, very light and efficient. It's also approved by Microsoft(so long as you have a valid license of a MS operating system)

or try a nice friendly installation of ubuntu linux.

the other thing to try is to beg HP for a disc.
