    I have 4GB it's not an issue.

I'm avoiding Vista because the graphics drivers are ----. It's not a microsoft problem it's an nVidia problem.

I'm still having some frame per second problems. Even tho Nvidia released 2 updates since. Punkbuster also released a new version so you dont have to "Run As Admin" all the time to play certain games. They are slowly catching up.

they aren't that bad, its just that vista is optimised for DX10 not DX9, so therefore the old nvidia and ati cards don't run as well as they would on XP. As for the current DX10 cards on the market, and the upcoming ones, they will run better on vista. Its not a driver issue, its just optimisation for DX9.

my dad bought a new lappy a few days ago with vista home ed. on it and atm i do not like it at all. simply because the interface of it all makes me feel like it is hiding something from me...

ok you got me there, but I think it is also to do with ATI has always favoured DX and nvidia OpenGL.

    vista is awesome.

the only thing i would say is to get 2gigs of ram or it will run a lil slow

i put vista ultimate on my laptop with 1 gig ram and 1.8 ghz core duo and when running firefox, photoshop, media center, and dreamweaver its using a constant 800 megs of ram whereas when i had xp it was only using about 500. its cause of the aero windows mannager.

i dont play much pc games cause i dont have a desktop atm and im fine with my 360 so i wouldnt know how vista handles games but but from what ppl are saying ill wait for dx10 and get a get a good gfx card

Don't install it on a computer over 3 years and for safety 2 years old. The computer most likely won't be able to hand vista and will run slow and not play any of your games. I did that and it took forever for anything to work and the fps was crap and I couldnt even play the simplest computer games.

aero barely uses RAM it's superfetch which uses RAM.
also XP doesn't use 50mb RAM it uses around 120mb.(on a fresh install without crap preinstalled)

I again hold my position of "why pay for a performance hit?"

it's basically a policy under vista which makes it cache RAM very aggressively.

if you have tons of RAM it's not an issue but most laptops don't also while it's loading programs into memory there is a moderate slowdown.

haven't checked in here for a while. nice to see that people don't think that vista is a piece of crap.
but unlike with the 32 bit verison which i tested, i had problems with the x64. there is only like one single %&#$ing network card on the market that's actually windows vista certified and works with the 64 bit version. the 64 bit version also requires higher performance.
well anyways since i only purchased the 64 bit cd, i was in a bit of trouble, but i still had the trial version for vista 32 on a cd, so i installed that and activated it with the cd key that i received with the 64 bit cd :D
everything is cool, pc is working fine, and speech recognition is &%@$ing awesome! ^_^
