Photoshop works on Vista. I just upgraded my laptop a couple of days ago and everything's working just fine. The only problem I've had is that some of the videos I try to play in WMP have distorted color lines running through them (the same videos never did that in XP). Aside from that, everything's real nice

unless you're going for a 2GB+ RAM system, XP is optimal.

either that or tweak the hell out of vista disable superfetch and a lot of miscellaneous services.

he means that Vista runs alot of programs in the background, so you need alot of ram.

as for what I meant, Vista is a very aggressive OS when it comes to memory caching, you basically want a TON of RAM if you're using Vista. 3GB is the new 2GB.(and 1Gb is the new 512mb)

and master it doesn't really run a lot of programs(well technically it does but ehh) it just preloads a lot of programs(which is why people say things tend to open faster under vista.)

if you rate card by MB then boy are you sad...

you should rate them primarily by the processing power fo the GPu, the memory interface and the memory speed.

example given a 320mb 8800GTS can beat a 7950GX2 even though it technically has 1024mb vRAM.

the last few years there has been a marketting gimmick where manufacturers stick ona lot of vRAM to cheap crappy cards and then sell them at a premium. The cards perform like ---- and most of the vRAM goes unused(the card isn't powerful enough to play at settings that require a lot of vRAM)
