I have been having problems with my computer since around the time I got my new ram and video card. I'm guessing it has to do with that, but I can't figure out the problem. If I try to play a video I have on my computer, play a game that requires a cd, and just some times randomly, it will take up 100% CPU. I checked in task manager while it was doing one of these fits and it appears the task manager is taking up all of the CPU. The GPU isnt over heating, as someone has suggested. I have reformatted multiple times and run just about every virus scan out there, so I highly doubt this is a software problem.

    System Specs:

    NVIDIA GeForce 6200
    Intel Celeron CPU 2.7 GHz
    760 MB ram
(if you need any more information then just ask. yes I realize this is a crap computer, but it serves its purpose for right now and I'm waiting on college for a new comp.)

Yeah that seems to be the problem. One is 2700, which is the original and the other is 3200, but when I bought it the tech guy said that it could speed down to match the other or it was compatible or something to that effect, basically it would work with it. Do I change the ram speed in my bios?

OK, yes I do need to do that and am planning on to soon. I removed the 3200 ram and am still having the problem. Now it seems that I am able to end the task and then it solves it, but I still can't play a video or a game. Guildwars seems to work for some reason though... haven't figured that out.

go to your device manager and make sure there's no ( ! ) by anything. If there is (most likley ur CD drive, ram, or video card) see wut the issue is and get back to us.
