Over the past few months there has been much speculation about StarCraft II, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular RTS. Various (credible) sources have released information regarding the game. Some new features include an additional race as well as new units for the pre-existing ones. It is expected that Blizzard will announce the game at it's World Wide Invitational on May 19. With the event less than two weeks away, StarCraft fans are brimming with anticipation and hope. Will Blizzard finally reward its StarCraft fans, or mock us with yet another WarCraft game? I think it's looking good so far, but you never know. Personally, I'd be content with a simple graphics overhaul in StarCraft II, and I'd pay almost any price for the game. A sparkling, shiny 3D environment may slow down the game considerably, but we can only hope that Blizzard has put that into consideration. Speaking of which, how the heck are they planning to keep the races balanced? Maybe they've been working out the balance for the ten years that we've been waiting. Or maybe it'll take several patches after the initial release to even things out. Hopefully we'll find out on May 19. P.S. Are there even any StarCraft fans on GameRenders? If so, speak up! What do you think will happen, and what are you expecting in the sequel?
Big starcraft fan here Im not sure how to take it, if they go 3d like WCIII, then it will be ok. But they need to improve the camera angle a bit, i dont like being able to see only half my units in battle It will be good, if they can keep the original units, gameplay, balance and 3d it. I know there was a team working on something like this, but it never worked.
i'm one of those people who in lieu of a 3d interface would prefer just a really really really good 2d one with complex transformation effects. it's an RTS, not a FPS ehh... I dunno I always thought RTSes were better constrained to 2D the newer 3d ones just seem to lack that sense of polish the older ones did. I mean everyone knows AoE2 was better than AoE3
They won't add too many new units for balance, and I think they would have to patch the new race and stuff to keep it balanced. 3D interface? I don't think I've seen one, can you link a screenshot?
I love Starcraft without a doubt. But this has been a speculation for a really long time. Plus I am just almost sure without a doubt if they make another Starcraft, they will ruin it. For me, I think Ill stick with the original.
Theres a rumor going around about a "World of Starcraft" style game...although it's nothing more then speculation, considering Blizzard is hireing a whole new team for a new MMORPG that has nothing to do with warcraft. A game like that would actually be really cool and I would play it in a heartbeat....unless THQ comes out with the promised 40k mmorpg, then I would play that. Anyways, I heard that if they make Starcraft 2 they are thinking about closing down all the regular Startcraft servers and stop supporting it...although I would assume you could still play single player. If they did make a SC2 I'd love more then one new race, and extra units would be nice. I'd rather it be in 3D, the graphics in the original get annoying however, it's not all bad...better game play would be nice. Even so, nothing beats Dawn Of War ^_^
It's good to see some fellow StarCraft fans The game will be announced on May 19, and I remember reading that there would be a beta. A StarCraft MMORPG like WoW would be very hard to make, considering there are three races and playing as Zerg, for instance, would be difficult. I doubt that the new game will be an MMORPG, however, as Blizzard only recently posted information about the new positions. If they did make one, I would definitely play it, but most StarCraft fans seem to dislike the idea. If StarCraft II is released, many are fearing that the original StarCraft servers will be shut down, for one reason or another. Obviously, quite a few people will choose to stick with the original, but there's no doubt that StarCraft II will sell millions on the day of its release. One source (I think it was Hanbitsoft - the company selling StarCraft in Korea) said that the fourth race would be the "Kerrigan" race (or, better known as the Zerg-Toss hybrids introduced at the end of the BroodWar campaign). With the addition of an entire new race the game will become more complicated. Blizzard would be wise to change as little as possible in the sequel (aside from the given graphics tweaks, etc.) and to make sure it is enjoyable at all levels of play. Though we all don't want Blizzard to deviate too much from the current StarCraft formula, we're all hoping for something new. We can only hope that Blizzard doesn't destroy the franchise by venturing out too far.

And here is an article about the MMO: http://pc.ign.com/articles/757/757586p1.html Yeah, a StarCraft MMO would be difficult to pull off...
Ya starcraft is like super old but there is still a whole bunch of people that still play it and if they do make a starcraft 2 is would be pretty crazy i think.
