So every so often and usually when i reboot my computer (which is rarely because i run my comp 24/7) svchost.exe starts hogging all my computer's resources. I did some googling and some say its because of IE7, some say its because of Windows Automatic Updates, etc etc. However, I noticed that this system hogging problem only started up after i switched my AV from Avast to nod32(trial); is the problem correlated somehow? Sometimes to 'stop' svchost from hogging my resouces I run another program that accesses the internet, ie startup xfire or firefox, and sometimes it ends svchost from taking up all the power, sometimes it doesnt. Recently, I turned my Windows Automatic Update off because it seems to work best at keeping svchost at bay, but now I get that annoying 'You turned ur auto update off ZOMG!' red shield ( suuuper annoying). <_< Thoughts? Fixes? Edit: and if it makes a difference or just to avoid the silly question, here are my comp specs: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum MOBO Windows XP --- Sp2 2GB Corsair XMS BFG OC GeForce 7800GS 256MB 1 TB HDD
I would use firefox to see if IE is the problem. Just keep the auto updates off...Even tho I know that thing is annoying as hell
I guess i shoulda said that i DO use FF and not IE7. I only have IE7 installed, but only used for updates.
