I hate Lil' Wanye. Or any of the rap "artists" that are out today. Old school artists like, Rakim and Nas are good. I don't understand why people like Lil' Wayne or someone like T.I. They can't even touch Rakim to be honest.

^^That's true and that's why I said Lil Wayne is a "good rapper" compared to wack rappers like 50 Cent and all those wack ass rappers from the South who are killing the Hip Hop.

Eric B., Rakim, Nas, Pac, Mos Def, Talib, KRS-One... those are "great rappers"

You are pretty ignorant. if you would listen to Lil Waynes underground stuff, the stuff his hometown listens to then you would appreciate him. What you hear on the radio is not the real Lil wayne, he does that ---- for the money. lil wayne is a lyricist first and foremost. So please do research and listen to what he actually can do then come back here.

    Merged Post:

Lil boosie is a real lyricist also, don't listen to his mainstream cause it sucks.

Lil Wayne "The Drought Is Over" mixtape is pretty good. March It Out is a good song imo.

no rapper out now can touch the lyricists that were around back in the day

Lil' Wayne is one of the better mainstream rappers around now, but that isn't really saying much compared to the rest of the field. What I consider mainstream btw is stuff that I hear on the radio and people playing out on the streets.

My main problem with hip hop is that it's all about the money now. All you need is any beat, a couple of similes, and words that rhyme. They don't even have to make sense at all, they just have to sound good. It's a bunch of jibba jabba around one or two lines. Rappers rap about only a handful of things:
    1) Money they have
    2) Girls
    3) Cars
    4) Dances they made up
    5) Drugs
    6) Partying like a rock star or rock man
    7) Jewelry
    8) Hustling
    9) Killing
Well I give them credit, that's almost 2 handfuls of things!

Real hip hop is music with meaning. They are made of a beat, similes, metaphors, and rhyme too. The difference is that the words pack power. Artists like Rakim, Nas, KRS-One, Eric B., Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Pac, BIG at times, Outkast sometimes, Bone Thugz at times, and Kanye West, Cormega, those are the kind of artists that do put meaning in their lines.

The only rappers I like that are mainstream are TI and Kanye. There's a couple of others I can't think of.
