I've taken an interest in OS X and I was wondering if I would be able to just buy the operating system and put it directly on my current computer. I am running Windows XP --- at the moment...
you should be able to assuming you have a system with a CPU supporting SSE2(SSE3 prefered) also if you're using an SATA harddrive, you'll need to do a bit of modding also it's illegal. It's called software piracy.
Really? I might be wrong, but didn't they make a Mac OS for PCs as well? Cant remember what it was called and not sure if it's legal. I was astonished when I heard because OS X on Windows reduces the exclusivity and charm of a proper Mac computer. You've gotta get a proper Mac just for the cool keyboard with USB sockets!
It's illegal to buy the software and put it on your computer? Because I'm pritty sure I've seen a Mac OS on a PC before...
No it isn't as long as you purchase the OS from a legal source, but you can legally put Mac OS on PC and Windows on Mac. Mac even created a specific program for the sole purpose of choosing whether you want to boot into mac or windows.
if you read my statement and responded as such, you officially fail. and WTF do you mean "charm of a proper mac" ? they're mass produced pieced of crap (relatively not absolutely)made by a capitalistic whore company which ripped the biggest of it's "innovations" from Xerox. They appeal to hippies, their founded, Steve jobs, had a ------ child (he adopted her sometime close to when she was 18 though) and stated that doing LSD was one of the 3 most important things he's done in his life... THAT is the essence of MAC... also, GreenPeace rated apple as the least environmentally friendly company atleast Apple is better than Microsoft, but not by much. Merged Post: so, where the hell do you buy OSX?
The only legal and bug-free option I know of concerning OSX and XP on the same piece of hardware is putting XP onto an Intel Mac with bootcamp. The only reason that you should get a Mac for is if you use a bunch of Mac only Software (Garageband, Aperture etc.) and if you are a complete Computer Noob, (including not being able to handle the challenge of having a two button mouse, but macs are supporting that now)
the onyl downside is that's not entirely bugfree... also macs have supported 2 button mice for something like a decade or two.
