Well, I had to break down and do it. I will be installing Fedora Core 5 on my PS3 today. Sony has finally decided to release it's open platform, and I decided to give it a go... (especially since I can run a SNES emulator on it). Yellow Dog Linux has officially released their version of Linux for the PS3, but unfortunately it's resolution is automatically set to install at 720p resolution, and since I don't have a HD tv yet, looks like that'll have to wait. I will be posting updates later. Wish me luck!
that's the one thing the PS3 is good for... now if only it had more RAM... then it would make an excellent PC replacement... maybe they can add a ready-boost like feature to it...
Awesome, got Linux installed, as well as a NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis emulator. I upgraded the HD from the 60GB that came with it to 250GB. I will be taking pics when I get home!
damn nice...im thinking of doing this when i get my ps3.. some questions though..is it worth it for someone whos never used a linux os before?
Someone will open it, Add more ram to it, Someone made the xbox 1 128mb, as you know its only 64mb, Time will tell
I decided to go with YDL after all. Rather than doing the graphical install, I suppose I will just do the text install, and change the resolution when I boot into the graphical interface. Damn, it sucks not having an HDTV. @System... there are plenty of online guides that you can use to walk you through it step by step. The biggest piece of advice I can give you is when you find the .iso of whatever linux version you are going to use, make sure you burn it at 2x. The PS3 doesn't take too kindly to the fast burns...
so im guessing you can run most pc linux apps on it, anybody tried running any windows apps on it through wine yet?
