Hello, this page displays programs that will help you computer when it has a virus, or just to simply "speed it up". CrapCleaner...Removes unwanted crap from you computer, and also trails of programs there were deleted. You can download this at CCleaner Follow the pages and download it. After downloading it, open it up, and " Run Cleaner", this may take a few minutes because of all the build up. After that, go to the cube that says Issues. Scan for Issues, and then when it is done, fix selected issues. When it asks you to backup the registry, click no. Use this program every day on your computer. Remember this will help you. Defragmenting....Go into your start menu, and click on Control Panel. A page should load up with alot of options. Select Performance and Maintence. Then Select Free up disk space by compacting files. It will open of the Defragmentor, and click defragment.(Note, it is better to run this program without any other programs running. This will not function correctly if you don't and it will slow your computer down. If you do not see performance and maintence, click start, and click on my computer. Once it loads up, right click on the file that says Local Disk. Scroll down to properties, and a menu will pop up showing you your Hardrive. At the top, click on the Tab that says tools. You will see the option to defrag, and there you go. Compacting=More Space......Defragmenter will open help you to a certain degree. For increased capacity, you will need compac your hardrive. To do this, simply hit start, go into my computer, and right click on Local Disk. Scroll Down to properties, and you hardrive will pop up. Move to the tab General, if you haven't done so already, and look down towards the bottom. There are 2 boxes. You need to check the box that says Compress drive to save disk space. This IS THE ONLY BOX THAT SHOULD BE CHECKED. Then click Apply on the bottom. You might have to fiddle around with it to work. Once it works, a menu will pop up asking you what you would like to do. Select affect files and folders only, and let it start. (Again, having all other programs closed out is the best thing to do while running this program.) This will take some time, so you better find something else to do. It might say something like 2 months remaining, but it really doesnt take that long. Just walk away from a half-to an hour, and it will be fine. Fixing Errors....Alot of people's problems on their computer is that they have many small errors. Even though just one small error might not affect you, alot of them will. To fix Window's errors, click start, my computer, Local Disk Drive, right click it, and scroll to properties. Again a menu will pop up with your Hardrive. Select the Tab Tools, and click the option "Check Now". Select the box Scan for and attempt recoverey of bad sectors. (Again this might take some time, so it is better you close out all programs) This can take from 5 minutes to a half hour. Please be patient. Thank You. Faster Startup....Alot of people have all the programs on their computer running and they dont even know it!! Did you know that your processor could be running hundreds of programs for no reason? When a computer starts up, several programs have to run for the computer to function. Other programs are just personal ones a person has installed. Everyone's computer starts all the programs when you turn the computer on. Now everyone knows that you just have to double click on a program and it will start. There is no need to have all the programs running when you don't need them. Simply when you want it, you get it. Think about this. You don't get more food when you already have food. You don't get mail when you just got the mail. In order for your computer to have a faster startup, you will have to do this. Click start, then go to the Program Called RUN. IT IS NOT LISTED UNDER PROGRAMS, IT IS IN THE IMMEDIATE MENU. When it opens up, Type in MSCONFIG, (Microsoft Configuration). This will open up a new window showing everything your computer is processing when it starts up, and when it is on. When it opens, it should be on the "General Tab". Simply Select Selective Startup. Then unclick the check where it says " Load Startup Items" Then Click ok, and then it will ask you to restart. If you have any important thing you want to save, save them and "x out". Then go to Restart Computer in the start menu, and then it will restart. When you sign back on, a window will pop up telling you that you have adjusted it and stuff. Select don't show this message again. Your computer will be running much faster.
[qoute] Compacting=More Space......Defragmenter will open help you to a certain degree. For increased capacity, you will need compac your hardrive. not really, it's a small difference. most programs have all their files next to each other so seek time can in some cases be a non-factor. but it also increases output, because while the harddrive still reads at say 60MB/s, you're now getting 70mb/s worth of data. I compress my drives, but not for capacity, I do it for an increase in speed.
I got a question about the last tip. Can you turn everything off in the Startup Tab in MsConfig? I know you said to uncheck the box in general, but i would rather choose the programs myself, and I don't want to turn off anything that windows need.
thats not such a good idea because some of windows programs which are essential for the OS to run correctly.
