I have heard some horror stories about the 360 getting the red ring of death, and hard drives malfunctioning. Now I am assuming that most of the problems were with consoles that were bought between launch and early 06. The question I have is this: Do you think that Microsoft has worked all the kinks with the 360 to the point that if you were to buy one it will last? I might be paranoid about it, but I am not fond of dropping $300-$400 on a new console only to have it crap out on me in a years time. Now I know that there is a year warranty on it and everything, but I have had my PS2 for about 8 yrs now, and I don't think it is to much to ask, for the 360 to last that long as well. So basically what I am wondering is if the newer 360's that were bought, say between the middle of 2006 till now are over all working better than the problematic 360 that everyone seems to be complaining about.
I have had my 360 for a while and didn't have a death ROL. Being a modder, I've went threw at least 5 Xbox 360's and they are all still functioning properly. Most people mess up their 360 somehow by moving it with the disk in the drive or shaking it or dropping it. If it just randomly goes death ROL on you, there are usually ways to fix it.
they guy at game crazy said it was the first wave with the big problems he said the late 06 early 07 are fine
I got mine around April of last year i got those red lights but it was just because all my wires werent hooked up 100% correctly i just plugged then in all the way and turned it back on it worked fine occasionally it shuts of [but thats because i bought the cooler fan thing and a part broke of so u really have to slam it in] and i would just wait for the Elite if i was u besides if u get the red rings of death u can just return it if u got the warantee thats what one of my friends did
Thanks for all the info everyone, and yeah it might be wise to wait for the elite but there is no chance on this little green earth that I would need a 120GB HDD. I just thought I should get all the info I could before I go out and actually buy one. It seems that if I found a good deal on one that was bought this year I should be good to go.
i got mine less than four months ago and its doin fine with the beneficial intercooler. Also waiting for the Elite is almost unlikely that you will be able to get your hands on it, nor do i think its worth it this point.
Besides my 360 occasionally scratching up some of my disks, I don't have any problems with it. Supposedly, this happens because I keep the console horizontal, but I don't want to keep it standing up, to where it can get knocked over.
