What are your thoughts on this? My roommate is looking into replacing her IPOD since it has maxed out its life expectancy, and she is looking into the 30GB Zune since it offers video and the 30GB IPOD doesnt I guess.

Anyone have any thoughts on which is the better deal?

idk, you will find prolly 50-50 on here. has she looked into the creative zen aswell? i read that it beats both.

but a cool thing about the zune is if you have 2 of them (say you have one and she has one) you can send songs and pics back and forth wirelessly on the go.

well be very aware that the markup on btoh are huge, in the neighborhood fo around70% over manufacturing costs.

I'd probably recommend creative based on past experiences, but it really depends.

The newer 30-60GB Ipods can play videos.
I havent yet heard anything about the Zune, but, if it can transfer music and video wirelessly between other models. i'd go for that, as the Ipod cannot. Although, the next model of Ipod will most likely have bluetooth built in.

if you're saying that apple is quality, you are sorely mistaken my friend. You should stop listening to the corporate prograganda of a multibillion dollar company which sells a 70$ mp3 player for 200$

microsoft would probably have a better product in this case. want to know why? Microsoft is a monopolist and evil company, they want to gain market share at any cost and they have the cash reserves to do it. M$ has put a lot of effort into making "the better product" and has sold a lot of stuff at a loss or near loss in hopes of gaining market share. It works.

Apple on the other hand has basically a cheap, poorly implemented BSD based operating system which stole half of it's concepts from Xerox, IBM and microsoft.

(for the record, I'm not really an apple fan and I hate microsoft)

Have you tried using the Zune software to actually run that thing, It's the biggest piece of ---- I've ever seen, although Zune does have it's perks like wireless transfer *drool drool*

I hate these topics, they always make me feel like I wasted my money buying an Ipod, and it's just fine imo.

    Ipods are fine ^^.

But Zune will be better. And the next ipod will probably be better than that. Then the next gen mp3/4/5 players will be better than that. Etc Etc Etc.

I have read that the zune, allows music transfers, but only once per song, and you get to play the song 3 times. 1 minute counts as a play I think, and you can only keep it for 24-48 hours, I can't remember. Also, you can only transfer some music.
I'm not saying the ipod is any better; you are paying for the brand on it.

for the zune when you send it through wifi to another person they can have it for 3 plays or 3 days then they can buy the song or remove it from their zune
