No such thing. the next processors will be the pentium m's that are currently used in laptops.

I had that Intel were dropping the P5, mainly because the Pentium was becoming too unstable/unusable over 4gig. The power usage / heat was greater than the performance.

I think now they are looking at dual core chips, etc.

    Yes you are correct.
Past 4Ghz it was too unstable due to heat and power usage. The are looking into developing the Pentium M processors in Laptops further to produce faster than they currently do, to put into Desktops. The advantage is there is less heat, less power usage and more cache.
The part about dual processors is they are hoping to run dual M processors to make up for the lack of clock speed within the M processors. Hope that clears it up.

If they're going to use their new 64bit technology on it... they should wait and improve on their 64bit technology first before they launch the new CPU. Yes Pentium has 64bit tech now and no... they can't live up to the 64bit performance that AMD has... not yet.

damn dual m processors. can't wait for that. but for now i am an AMD guy. i find that their products are more consistant and reliable. although intel is very good. I have a anthon 3200+ just about 2.3 ghz. not bad. i dont need that much.

I'm just intrigued as to how their dual core technology will pan out, having two cpu's in one chip is gonna be awesome and has big potential, especially at the high end of the market. High end servers and that with more than one cpu currently will switch to the new dual chips, and then if they continue in the same vein (Some Tagan mobo's have 8 cpu slots :S) that;ll mean 16 cpus on the one board, a bit mental I think.

That technology is gonna spread elsewhere too, notably gfx cards. Everyones got all excited over the new 3D1 card with two 6600GT cores, yet dual cpu mobo's have been around ages and the idea has only just been ported over in a stable working way (they tried it with the old voodoo cards way back when but it failed horrendously). The gaming power to come from them will be nuts.

Well thats my techy little dreamy rant over.........*wishes for future,* shame i hate intel really :D

I hope you realize that clock speed is irrelevent when comparing two diferent processors, look what AMD has done their FX55 is at only 2.7 yet it outperforms the most expensive pentium by around 5%, even though its about 200$ less...

P5s are essentially horendous, they will never come into being, pentiums killed themselves. Intel developed their processors in a very unwise manor...
