I just made the above tag for X'ed idea he has here. When Katrina hit, it was devastating here. At the time, I helped run a comic strip based on the game star wars battlefront. My friend drew them, I wrote the script and blog to go with it. here is the comic posted and the blog, originally posted on 9-04-05, days after Katrina. here is the blog I wrote at the time: Our hearts go out to those who were affected by this tragedy. I (Omen) live in Baton Rouge, LA. Though I may not have been in the worst of the storm, I am still affected by it. I dodged a bullet for sure. Baton Rouge is only about 1 hours drive from New Orleans. I have been to New Orleans many times. I have many memories of that place. Now, that is all they are. I know in time, it will be rebuilt, maybe better. But still, it will not be the same. It never will be. New Orleans is a place of history, the home of Mardi Gras and the French Quarter. It is the Gateway to the Mississippi. As I am writing this, I cannot help but tear up. I feel so fortunate that I still even have a home. It has definitely been a miserable and stressful week. But still, it is nothing compared to those who are now left with nothing. Imagine, losing everything you have. I'm not talking about the cd's, games, or other things of that nature. I mean, the house you built with blood, sweat, and tears... The first picture of your child, taken shortly after birth... That promotion you just earned from your hard work... The school you graduated from... The people you called family... This is just a few of the things that people have lost. They are now forced to live in shelters or struggling to find shelter. Have you ever cried in happiness at the sight of fresh water? My point is, the people of New Orleans and its surrounding areas in Mississippi and Alabama, along with the Gulf Coast, are now lost. They have nothing left. All they have is each other. Some of them do not even have that. These people want to help themselves, they are not asking for a hand out, but asking for a help up. The destruction left by Katrina, does not only affect those who do not have anything left, but it also will affect those with everything to give. So please, do what you can to help. Whether it be in prayers, money, giving blood, or whatever... Anything you can do, is everything they cannot! Remember its not just them, it is us. We're in this together. -Omen aka FakorX ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few weeks after, someone close to e who was like a grandmother to me, died from the stress of it all, she lived on the Mississippi Gulf coast. Were some tough times then, nearly 2 years later, the city and coast still haven't fully recovered. Its crazy, but yeah, glad I could add something from the heart to your cause. I look forward to seeing more submissions from people to truely make this a global effort from the world wide gfx community.
The most inspiring pieces of work I've seen in a while I hope to see more like these! WHo knows, maybe they'll make someone hink (or at least we can hope )
