Well, I have a Virus and what's it's been doing is shutting down Internet Explorer when I do searches for Anti-Viral programs. It just "Alt-F4"'s IE. It has been doing the same with some of my Anti-Virus programs. Recently, it was also hi-jacking my homepage, to MSN.com as well as redirecting some of my clicked links to web-based purchases with the keywords of the link.
I would like to know if any people have some feedback on this, or have prior experience with something of this manner. I can post up HiJackThis logs, run scans with different programs, etc. Just let me know if you're up to helping out.
I have tried running my Windows XP Home in Safeboot then scanning, numerous programs, and more to find the problem, though nothing is detected. I also did a System Restore to a week before the present day and still am having issues.
My worry is that it's doing something I'm not noticing...

Do some spyware scans and some ad scans. Safe mode is for deleting programs and stuff so if there is any new programs delete them.

Alright, I'm always running Norton Anti-Virus, Ad-Aware SE and the built in Windows.
Here's a process list I threw together with Paint. Therefore, Paint is the 63rd process, I know 63 is a massive number...

I have been running scans with -
    SpyBot Search And Destroy
    AdAware SE
    Norton Antivirus
    ETRemover
    CWShredder
CoolWebSearch Smart Killer - Specific Search Application

damn... thats a lot of processes. If you don't really want to reformat (its what I would do) then go d/l hijackthis and run it. post what it finds.

I've tried running HiJackThis shortly after my post above, I went to try and run HiJackThis and it was shutting down within 4 seconds of my opening it. Therefore, I believe the virus is targetting my programs as well as my searches and links online...
I'm considering re-formatting. Any recommendations on Zeroing it, or should I just do the basic stuff and wipe it that way?

Have you tried System Restore to a point when you didn't have the virus?
If you haven't tried that yet, I'd say go ahead and try.
If it doesn't work, then reformat. But you'll be happy if you do that and it works, instead of just reformatting right away.

In my first post I said I did try a restore to a week before the virus was noticed. There were no points before that, so I don't know if that's just Windows or if the Virus disabled those... At the moment, I'm on the laptop - and the infected CPU is getting scans done, so I'll have results soon enough (2 hours).

i think you should ditch the sh!tty Norton and move on to Avast,NOD32 or AVG. Have you tried using CCleaner? If not try that and see what happends

Hm, I'll give it a shot - though it's blocking all of the sites Xanax posted, except free-av.com
I think I was able to get some of a HiJack log in, it produced a text document that I can't open... 13kb in size.
I'll try to send that to another computer and post that up.
