To get rid of it quickly and easily, System Restore...^_^

If he got it ages ago though, he may lose a few things if he System Restores...If he got it, say, today, he should System Restore.

If it has just infected his MSN, uninstall and then reinstall it.

Posting a link to what could contain a virus is a pretty dumb idea, no offense. :P

Depending on what virus and how severe it is, you may not even need to System Restore.
If it's just a simple virus, some spyware, etc., just tell him to scan it with anti-spyware, anti-virus, etc. software. If he doesn't have any, tell him to go to www.download.com, and download some.

If it's more severe, then he could try system restore.

If you give more detail I think you'll find that you will receive better help.

Try a few anti-virus programs if you need to. But right now System Restore is still NOT the answer to fixing the problem.

Are you thinking of 'the' System Restore? Or System Reformatting? They both do completely different things remember...System Restore doesn't do any lasting harm to your PC. System Reformatting, however, removes everything from the PC, and brings it back to it's factory settings.

Were you thinking of Reformatting, rather than Restore?

Download AVG Free, Run A scan, find the virus, Delete the virus. If its worse, and AVG can't do anything, find the file directory of the virus, and delete it. If you can't do that, use System Restore. Settings vary on systems, and you might loose recently saved data, based on the most recent restore point.

yes, we understand but if you havent noticed, a link hasnt been posted yet. the next best thing to do is to follow what the other members have recommended like run a virus scan. If the virus has been around for a while, these programs will catch the virus.

First he needs to run some virus scans. So I was referring to System Restore, NOT reformatting his system.
Should the virus scan not work, then I'd go with System Restore. And finally if that doesn't work, then reformat.

System restore might not be the answer sometimes the virus creates some sort of backup if the user uses system restore i think. I know this one someone tried sending it to me its like an AIM virus or some sort of messenger virus where if one person gets it and your on AIM it sends it to other people on your list so don't go on any messenger programs. I remember there was this site that had a D/L like one of these guys said that should get rid of it.

Yeah, System Restore does not always work. I think I heard that even if really bad, even a reformat wont get rid of it. That doesn't really make sense, but it was on a site that is creditable. Apparently some guy that got something like that had to just buy a new hard drive.

But if your friend is able to log on and a lot of things are still normal, I really doubt it would be something that bad.

Totally incorrect, if you reformat it clears everything on that hard drive, if you didn't know that so it wouldn't even have the slightest chance of surviving. I don't know if you explained which part of the computer was infected,.

That's what I thought it did to. But I know I read this thing on a website that I know is creditable, and it said that some don't get wiped still. I didn't understand at all, but I know I read it. =\
