So I went and bought Oblivion for PC tonight and the disk will not read/boot up. It makes the wirling-ish sound of booting up but then clicks a couple of times and gives up. The disk is not faulty because I exchanged the game already and the new one doesn't work. Now I throw in a random game/cd and everything loads fine. So for some reason my computer wont read the Oblivion CD. (My computer can easily handle running Oblivion.) What do I do? ANY help is appreciated with a + rep. I just can't figure it out. Thanks.
Was the cd you bought a CD-RW or dvd cd? Cause if its dvd then you need a dvd drive ... Anyways I think you should return it to the store.
I don't know. I have a DVD drive also but the cd doesnt work in there either. Thanks for the try. + rep Still need help people. Merged Post: Well now I am pretty sure it's a DVD-ROM game. I threw in a random DVD into it and it seems that my DVD drive is broken. Anyone know how I could make the DVD-rom read disks? Going to cost a lot to repair?
I think it would probably be cheaper to get a new DVD drive than repair yours... they're not that expensive unless you have a laptop. I'd recommend getting the CD version, but Oblivion is only on DVD. =/
are you using windows vista? I heard that a lot of people who upgraded to vista is having trouble running some games. Either that or most likely your dvd drive is messed up or something. Good thing is they are pretty cheap.
I had this happen to alot of my games my old DVD couldn't read much games but wen I installed DVD dual layer it could read all, also you could try getting fake .exe files that make the pc think the cd is in there?
I had a very similar problem - I couldnt load up ANY DVD games, and it always said that any blank DVDs that I insterted (with the intention to burn stuff) were already full, with 0 bytes. I tried everything, and the only thing that worked was borrowing and using a head cleaner from a friend, lol. I even took my computer apart making sure everything was plugged in correctly and nothing had come loose. Also, be sure to check and clean up any dust which may have gotten inside the drive. Usually it isnt a problem, but any build-ups can begin to cause faults. Check these out before you go and buy any new hardware, just on the offchance that you have the same problem as what I had Good luck. (no need to rep, just let me know how it goes)
Wow thanks a lot for the replies guys. What I am looking at doing is just getting a cd burner/dvd drive combo. Got a friend coming to help me out today so I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.
