i kinda want to buy an alienware computer, since they are so good for gaming, but idk if its really worth it. can i get sum tips?
What he said. The fact is that you're paying that extra money for a brand name. You could build the same PC Alienware are offering for less money, and you get experience with PCs from building it.
Same - Exactly Paying like I dunno £500 for brandname and then £500 for labour haha So No - Way better to make a custom one DARKSTAR
Reasons not to buy alienware: -now owned by dell so expect ----ty service -price premium for a brand name -long wait for PC arrival and possible shipping damage -unable to completely customize (given a list to choose parts off of) -hard to upgrade, once your computer gets outdated many retailers of computer build their computers to make it hard to upgrade so that you have to go back to them to buy why to build: -cheaper to buy off newegg and zipzoomfly -complete customization to get what you really want for less -you learn a lot about computers even if you don't know anything about them -allows you to have a plan for future upgrade (good computers are upgradeable computers) -better computer for less (why would you not?) final thoughts: if you're going to build and don't know how, find yourself a good computer forum that can help you out. I visit anandtech.com. its filled with a lot of helpful knowledgeable people. DO RESEARCH! figure out all the parts you're going to buy and then post them somewhere just to verify they work together (ie motherboard processor pin matchup). ok bye
I completely agree with you guys on Alienware--for DESKTOPS. Alienware laptops, however, are definitely worth the price. It's extremely tough to build your own laptop. I have an Alienware Area-51 m7700 (3.4GHz P4, 2GB DDR2RAM, 2x60GB RAID0 HD, nVidia 6800 Ultra) and couldn't be happier with it. Tech support is a possible issue, though. I bought mine before Alienware got bought out by Dell and haven't had to deal with Dell's tech people yet fortunately.
what determines if a system is good for gaming is the components inside it. not what company marketted the ehll out of the gaming industry. I can assure you that a GeForce 8800 would be just as powerful in a custom built PC, a Dell, an HP, or an eMachine as it would eb in an alienware. also, Alienware is no more, they're just a division of Dell now.
didnt alienware overclock their processors and just say that they are something else or something like that i remember hearing about that a long time ago
