Comp Dead... Need Help!

    k here's the deal my computer starts at the hp screen as usual but then just stays black, I managed to find the problem files when I tried to do an HP reformat. I got the following error "Error extraction - file couldn't be opened." Windows\system32\config\system.log Windows\system32\config\system.sav Windows\system32\systemprofile\axel.dav Windows\system32\systemprofile\userdiff.log Windows\system32\ApplicationData\ntuser.dat Windows\system32\ApplicationData\Axel.dav Windows\system32\ApplicationData\desktop.ini There were a few more files that I missed and a few more "Axel" files let me stress that I am a comp newb so I need simple help. I tried using a windows disk to reinsta

    wait so you cant reinstall windows?

    did you try safemode?

    uhh how can i get to safe mode if nothing loads, it just goes from hp to dead screen no XP loading. I tried f12 to start safemode but that was a no go just the same old black screen .

    you dont need to load xp for safe mode, just hold F8 til it goes to safe mode

    You should try to get in safe mode, if that isn't possible, google for possible solutions to fix your problem.

    Have you got very important stuff on your pc? You will probably have to do a reformat.

    What also sometimes works, to clean your pc inside.

    ok I'm in no way an expert but from what you posted it looks to me like a corrupted version of windows. the way to go about fixing that is a repair install. to do that you should put the windows disk in to the disk tray then when your computer starts to boot go into BIOS. on HP computers I believe the BIOS hotkey is F5. then from their change the primary boot device to your CDROM it should just be in settings or whatever.


    then from there do this

    DO NOT DO ANYTHING WITHOUT FURTHER RESEARCH. I'm no expert so doing something dramatic to your computer because of something I said is a bad idea. I'm just giving you an opinion for further research.

    Well f8 does work to get to the advanced boot option but none of them work all of them just freeze.

    what do you mean none of them work? can you move the selection with your keyboard?

    Yes but after I click them the system freezes.

    hmm donno maybe replace the CMOS battery? its a little circular batter on the motherboard. you can buy replacements at walgreens. I donno though don't listen to me

    or rip a battery from an old PC or something. Lost one of ours when doing something and replaced it with one from an old pc lying around.

    it could be a bad hd or something disconnected, bios or safe mode should still load...

    also could be a dead cmos battery...

    just take it to a repair store to do a diagnostics should cost 50 dollars at best buy

    Have you cleared CMOS lately? Maybe doing that will help...
