Save the world from your desktop!

Local Cooling is a beta software that will shut down your monitor, speed down your disks, and shut down other non-essential energy-guzzling equipment in your pc while it is idol.

Why not just shut the machine off?
Evidence shows that the process of powering off and on may consume more energy than just leaving it on. (In most cases)

The best part about this program is that it keeps track of: The amount of trees you have saved, the amount of kw/h (kilowatt hours) you have saved, and the gallons of oil you have saved. All conveniently located on a small desktop icon, accurate to the nearest hundredth!

Register at the site and install the program! It is not only great for the environment, but it is fun to see what you are saving! The site also has a ranking system which rates your savings against all the other users!

PS: When the disks are slowed down, your speakers will beep. Shut off speakers when afk.

PPS: Please - No Global Warming debates! Please keep arguments and smack talk out of here! It is greatly appreciated.

Thats what I used to do... But now I let it run full power 24/7 Along with my Brothers PC and my Parents Labtop.

I'd get this but standby is pretty much that same.

BRB going to overclock my computer some more...

I think 1.4V on the CPU up from 1.25V should be enough... along with increasing chipset volts to 1.8 from 1.6 and then a 15% increase in clock speed should be in store

then I can vMOD my GFX card. Might hit 700core on that thing.

it wont if no one does it, but imagine if a couple of thousand people did it, could slow it down by a year or 2

I turn mine off once in a while.
I listen to music when I sleep and when I'm awake.

I have no power over my brothers PC or my parents Labtop. :\
