okay, so this is basically liek the 4th time something like this has happened to my computer, and it's bascially pissing me off. so what happens every 8-9 months is taht my hardrive kinda dies out or soemthing becuase right now, it takes like 5 minutes to startup. and like whenever i open "my computer" it just starts lagging like crazy and i have to end process, which causes the start bar/icons to dissapear for 30 seconds and then everything comes back, but i can't get my computer open. basically, the last few times, this would continue for like a week or two, then the whole computer would stop turning on, and i would have to get a new hardrive. i leave my comp on for long periods of time (10 hrs?) andddd i download stuff on bittorent most of the time it's on, donno if that has antyhing to do with it. what cna i do to stop it? PLEASE help. and how is leaving yoru comp on all the time bad?(except for the electric bill)
it can be of any Trojan ware in your PC... Try using some Good Antivirus or Trojan Remover softwares and try scanning your PC... If the porblem stil continues... you take some backup of ur files and try Formatting... (Keep tat last chance...)
yea, i suggest reformat... stop downloading from torrents, many of them contain viruses you dont even notice
most torrents do not have virus and when a file does most people will post something like "OMFG DON'T DOWNLOAD ITS A VIRUS" and yet there is still the stupid person not to read and do so anyways. but it is most likely a virus i would suggest avast it can be a pain some times by not letting you open a folder that could have a virus but works well.
didn't really mention this but my com makes like almost click noises when i open my computer and when it starts up. does trojans account for this? or issit hardware? someone told me to dl speedfan and check, but speedfan says my hd is perfectly fine
that's the harddrive seeking. also try defragmenting, though it could be the drive just dying on you.
alright i'm using avast right now, but nothing is really showing up... but i'm using that scann thing that keeps going when you're using your com pright? so we'll see what shows up, but i'm pretty sure it's the hd just dying, but now i'm wondering. why are my seagate 180gb hds dying around every 6-7 months? not even lasting a year? and what does leaving your comp on too long damage?
assuming your system has adequate cooling leaving it on should nto seriously damage it, especially if ti's just runnin g on idle. also Seagate drives have 5 year warranties, USE IT.
If your going to use an antivirus program, use it in safe mode. I would suggest to reformatting your computer and reinstall the OS and the rest of your programs. Once you have it set to the way you want it, I would make an image of your HD by using Norton Ghost. This will help you in the next time you have to reinstall your OS. These guys mentioned about proper cooling, this will help the life of your HD and other components of your computer. Your computer is meant to be ON, and leaving it on 24/7 won't kill it. Defraging regularly especially when you have your computer on for hours at a time is good. I would suggest defraging once every two weeks or atleast once a month. Good luck.
um wait is idle mode just leaving it on? or is that like a special thing i gotta do or something? que? and... is the normal fan enough for cooling? i think speedfan says the temp of my hd is fine so it should be fine?
I would add more fans to your comp. The proper way is the number of fans bringing in air should = the number of fans bringing out hot air from your computer. Basically 1 to 1, I would also use 120mm fans because they are more effecient.
Do you defrag often? that could be an issue, because if you download all those large files off bitorrent and never defrag performance will greatly decrease, and it will put more wear on your hard drive (explaining failures). It could be a virus, although I download a ----load of stuff off bitorrent and have never gotten a virus. Leaving your pc on should not hurt your drive too badly unless you have inadequate cooling ( I leave mine on all the time, and my 3 year old 80 GB WD has never had a problem neither has my new 160 GB one ( a couple months old )
