I just have to say that Al Gore was bound to get something correct after about a billion other attention whoring things. "I INVENTED THE INTERNET" Basically, he's right, but still a douche.
Who really cares. You might as well do what you can to help set things right, so the human race can still exist.
He is damn true. AP hired top leading scientists on climate to verify Al Gore's documentary and all of them agreed that he conveyed all the science correctly. See Wiki
I am getting the filmed documentary tonight and will check it out, but I do believe that global warming is a nature caused thing - just intensified by mankind. Through the whole existance of the planet, there has been many extremes in tmeperature, this is just another.
You do realize half of those scientists aren't even real ones? They just signed the paper. Wikipedia is not a reliable source of information since it can always be manipulated by anyone.
I think man may pay some very small part, but it's blatant lie to say we're the only cause. Last year, some scientist were digging in the Antarctic and found tropical trees and ferns frozen in the ice. That tells us the Earth goes through cycles. As it turns out, Earth switches pole positions about every 250,000 years, causing Ice ages, Heat breaks, etc. We're long overdo though, (about 750,000 years into out current pole positioning) and about 10% thought the magnetic pole flip, causing a large increase in heat. We'll see more happening later on though.
What I was trying to get across is that the warming of the Northern Hemisphere by the Milankovich cycles triggers what scientists call 'positive feedback' from the carbon cycle which raises global temperatures by a significantly larger amount and ensures that the warming continues long after the initial warming factor has been removed. Since the effects far exceed the causes of the Milankovic cycle, it fits that the amplified warming should be attributed to the increase in the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide and methane since scientists already know that these two gases contribute to the greenhouse effect and can see that temperature rise and greenhouse gas concentration correlate very tightly. With regards to your quoted figure (CO2 makes up 0.0001% of the atmosphere (?!)) it seems both miscalculated and irrelevant since greenhouse gases (including water vapour) only account for a small percentage of the gases in the atmosphere anyway. Your figure for water vapour is also irrelevant since the percentage composition of each gas and the percentage contribution to the greenhouse effect are not linked. The latter figure is of course, the important one, since it tells us the amount by which the gas contributes to the warming of the earth, relative to the other gases. As far as real figures go, they are a little difficult to calculate accurately; however, both NASA and the IPCC surveys agree within one percent of each other that removal of all the greenhouse gases, save carbon dioxide, would leave the greenhouse effect 25% as effective as it is today. The reason that naturally produced carbon dioxide does not enhance the greenhouse effect is because it is absorbed by the Earth's carbon sinks (TRF, oceans, soils etc.) as per the carbon cycle. Without absorbtion of anthropogenic carbon dioxide, the increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration levels would be almost double. As for both the Medie v al Warm Period and the Mid-Holocene Warm Period, the warming experienced during these times was localised and unlike the global warming we are facing today. There are two good NOAA pages that back this up: ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/globalwarming/holocene.html ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/globalwarming/m e d i e v a l.html
People have caused global warming, the most intelligent species will be the end to Earth and it\'s wonders. It\'s always been this way and always will, we just need to slow it down and find a alternative place to live to survive.
Dude im 100% behind Gore... People should start making changes now . As al gore said comparing people to the frong in hot water, people will wait until its too late.
I believe he is right, but even if we're not sure, why NOT do something about it anyway? If it is the cause, and you do something, then hooray you saved the Earth. If it is not the cause, and you do something, who does it hurt? No one. So make a change. Do something different. Before it's too late.
And the award of worst attitude ever goes to.. Kira. Seriously? With that kind of attitude the human race would have died ages ago. ------ your stupid attitude.
i think Al gore is right because in a few hundred or so years everything on earth will be flooded and then we might be able to have another ice age which can and will have an effect on our future children. if we don't stop using gas guzzlers this matter wouldnt get better it will only get wrose and if it gets wrose that will have an bigger effect on the way people will live. if people continue to use gas guzzlers their driving conditions should be decreased or at least buy something which would harm the earth.thats why when native americans were the onlyy ones on earth they couldve drank the water straight from the river. well that is my views.
Reporters: "Mr. Gore, could you comment on your views on jets and the way they affect the atmosphere?!" Mr. Gore could not be reached for comment as he stepped from his private jet to his private limousine.
